CNB1 NICU Physician/NNP INet Talking Points East Jefferson General Hospital NICU- 12/01/2009 Tiffany Paisant RN, MSN, Clinical Analyst 10/21/2009

Slide 1 CNB1 please make sure inet is standardized for caps and spelling Chris Barrilleaux, MD, 9/2/2009

10/21/2009 Really.what is I&O/iNet/IView/Superview? These are all synonyms and another place to view different types of results On the I&O/Superview tab, you will see the inet/ Interactive View The View is split into 3 different sections: The Navigator, View Window, and Filter Window

inet 101 The inet solution has been specifically designed for critical care pts by critical care nurses and physicians Some features include: Viewing of Direct Charting Flowsheet Interface of data from the cardiac monitor directly into I&O/Superview Integration between the order, medication wizard, inet, and I&O 10/21/2009

What does this mean? I&O AND critical care documentation will be on the I&O/Superview tab for NICU. NICU Go live is December 1, 2009 for nursing and NNPs/MDs. (24/7 support on unit until December 11 for Nurses, MDs and NNPs CNB2 On the I&O/Superview tab, patients not in critical care(nursery) will have the same view that they have today. 10/21/2009

Slide 4 CNB2 might want to bold or alter color for this statement Chris Barrilleaux, MD, 9/2/2009

Where will this tab be? Will CNB3 it move around? No, it will always be the 3 rd tab, to the right of the MD Quick View 10/21/2009

Slide 5 CNB3 Well, actually, the I&O Hx tab will be going away... Chris Barrilleaux, MD, 9/2/2009

View Window This is where you see the results. Results are organized by bands, sections and individual result names in time columns. After the display name of the result you can see unit of measure, if applicable to that result. Bands: section names Section: result display names Timescale columns Units of Measure

Section Formatting Light Blue Section: This is a section that is currently open and available in the view window. Yellow Section This is the section that is open at the top of the view window. Section Name without a check mark This is a section that does not contain any charted results for the current time period Section Name with a check mark This is a section that contains charted results that the nurse has entered. Section name with Red Exclamation Point This is a section that contains charted critical high/low results for current time period. Bolded Section - In the band, a section will become bolded, denoting new documentation, while in the patient s chart

The Filter The filter is used to pull certain results into the top results window for quick viewing of that type of result For example, if high is checked, High results will display in the top window and will appear in light green in the viewing window cells.

Icons in results cells tell about the data in the cell

Split Screen Select band you want on top Click Split Screen icon Click in the white bottom half Click second band desired for the bottom

The Legend While in a patient s chart on the I&O/Superview tab, click Options from the menu bar at the top and choose Show Legend for a quick listing of inet symbols

inet Buttons and Icons Collapse Navigator Navigator window is displayed or hidden by using this toggle button. 10/21/2009 BMDI Bedside Monitoring Device CNB5 Interface Allows the system to populate vital signs information from the monitor into COMPAS. Data is downloaded at least every 60 seconds The nurse must accept or change the data and sign it for it to become part of the record. Data can be graphed from the BMDI monitor interface.

Slide 13 CNB5 may want to at least reference BMDI earlier in the talk Chris Barrilleaux, MD, 9/2/2009

BMDI Vital Sign Documentation Process Nurses will PULL the vital signs from the Drager monitor into the columns, review, and/or edit, then sign to the record

Clinician vs. Device Documentation of Vital Signs You can drill into results cells to see if results were entered by the nurse or from the device interface. Double click on the result and review the data on the result tab. If Source is Device, BP is from the monitor

Clinician vs. Device Documentation of Vital Signs These results were manually entered by the nurse. Source is Clinician

Timescale Adjusting-1 st option Your default will be set to actual time in the Vitals band and hourly in the other bands but this can be changed for viewing this band: Click on Options, Timescale Intervals and select your preference for the view. This will NOT stick for next patient or band.

Timescale Adjusting-2 nd Option Right click on the time column to change to the desirable reviewing time. This will NOT stick for next patient or band.

Viewing Results 10/21/2009 Remember, results can still be viewed on existing tabs: 24 Hour Summary and Critical Care tabs

Things to Remember for a Smoother Transition inet is just another place to view nursing documentation and results in Compas You will only see what has been documented NOT THERE, NOT CHARTED.. You can view this documentation from anywhere; in your office, home, or another unit prior to rounding in the critical care units 10/21/2009

Customize View Per Patient and Per User There are 2 ways to initiate the customization of your view that WILL STICK for all pts: 1) Click the icon that is even with the time columns

Customize view- 2 nd way On the menu bar at the top of the screen, click options, then select Customize View

Customize View/User Preferences As the physician, your view is set to see all fields that have results documented. The nurse uses this tab to pull a display name that has no previous documentation into the view to enter results. Click the Preferences tab to customize your view.

User Preferences Any changes you make here will STICK for you. Click on drop downs to view and select your choices.
