JOB PURPOSE An Advanced Nurse Practitiner (ANP) is an experienced and highly educated Registered Nurse wh manages the cmplete clinical care fr their patient, nt slely any specific cnditin. Advanced practice is a level f practice, rather than a type r specialty f practice. ANPs are educated at Master s level in advanced practice and are assessed as cmpetent in this level f practice. As a clinical leader they have the freedm and authrity t act and accept the respnsibility and accuntability fr thse actins. This level f practice is characterised by high level autnmus decisin making, including assessment, diagnsis, treatment including prescribing, f patients with cmplex multi-dimensinal prblems. Decisins are made using high level expert knwledge and skills. This includes the authrity t refer, admit and discharge within apprpriate clinical areas. Wrking as part f the multidisciplinary team ANPs can wrk in r acrss all clinical settings, dependant n their area f expertise. The rle f the ANP in the Acute Onclgy service is dynamic and the psthlder will be practive in pineering and develping this rle in respnse t challenging healthcare needs and advances in practice. SCOPE AND RANGE The psthlder will be expected t wrk acrss rle and gegraphical bundaries, prviding cmprehensive hlistic care and advice sensitive t the needs f patients and families accessing Specialist Onclgy Services (Beatsn West f Sctland Cancer Centre). Will invlve cmmunicatin acrss the West f Sctland due t the reginal rle f the cancer centre. Serving a ppulatin f 2.8 millin, the Beatsn West f Sctland Cancer Centre has clinical links with 16 hspitals in five surrunding health bard areas. Bth Nn-medical Prescribing and advanced clinical assessment and diagnstics knwledge & skills supprt this practice. Strategic planning, educatin, research and audit are key cmpnents f this rle. Assess, diagnse and manage the clinical needs f patients with cancer, including thse with nclgical emergencies, in a range f settings including the Acute Onclgy Assessment Unit and ther GGC sites fr patients with cancer, as part f an in-reach acute nclgy service. First pint f cntact fr patients with acute nclgy prblems whilst at hme. Respnsible fr independently triaging patients fr assessment and management telephne calls and als crdinating / undertaking assessment / rganising admissin. Screen patients fr disease r cmmunicate diagnstic decisins based n interpretatin f clinical and ther findings such as labratry results r radilgy reprts. Prescribe treatment including medicatins as an Independent Nurse Prescriber. Fllwing cmpetency based training and supervisin, undertake invasive and nninvasive diagnstic and therapeutic prcedures where apprpriate.

Wrk autnmusly with the Beatsn West f Sctland Cancer Centre multidisciplinary teams. Liaisn with West f Sctland hspitals including emergency departments t arrange lcal review/ admissin as necessary, and with GP s acrss the regin. Manage the clinical needs f patients with cancer within the hspital setting in line with apprved evidence based clinical prtcls and within the agreed sphere f clinical practice. Prmte health educatin, disease preventin and supprt staff, patients & carers acting as a prfessinal resurce t these grups. 5. MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical/Specialist Knwledge Ensure clinical practice reflects all current NMC dcuments including: Cde f Prfessinal Cnduct Standards fr Recrd Keeping Administratin f Medicines Wrk within the Bard s Plicies and Prcedures and the parameters set dwn in agreed lcal/reginal clinical prtcls and guidelines and natinal guidelines.
