BPW Calgary Endowment Impact Report Business and Professional Women s Club of Calgary, Executives and Members - Because of you, our community rises You have made a serious investment in Bow Valley College and demonstrated confidence in our ability to positively affect future generations of learners. An endowment is a forever investment which brings to life your values and commitment to education and enables those who might not otherwise have the means to complete a post-secondary education. Your commitment to Bow Valley College not only affects the student recipients but also their families and their community. You have created something good that will positively impact countless people for years to come. As you peruse this report, we hope you will think of all the lives you are improving with your giving through your award. Let us show you the impact you are having! It is a great honour to be one of this year s recipient of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Calgary Award. This is my third semester at Bow Valley College for the GED program. When my studies are over in August I will be continuing at the College for my Hospital Unit Clerk Certificate. 2016 Business and Professional Women s (BPW) Club Legacy Award recipient, Marlaina Mackay, GED student (middle) Yvonne Silver (left) and Kathryn Smith (right) from the BPW It has been almost 25 years since I have been in school. I have 4 wonderful children and was a young mother. For the last 25 years or so I have been supporting my family with low paying jobs, sometimes working 3 at a time. One day my older son said to me mom I know you have always liked school and now that you re older you need to make this about you". The next thing I know I am in my third semester. It has been one of the best choices I have made in my life. I have had nothing but support from this school and do recommend it to anyone. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely, Marlaina Mackay

BPW Calgary Award Endowment Impact Report I am writing to thank you for establishing the Business and Professional Women s Club of Calgary Bursary at Bow Valley College. I was very happy and appreciative to learn that I was selected as a recipient of your bursary. 2016 Business and Professional Women s (BPW) Club Health and Wellness Award recipient, Holly Doell, Practical Nursing Diploma Graduate (middle) Yvonne Silver (left) and Kathryn Smith (right) from the BPW Club I have just recently completed the Practical Nurse Diploma at Bow Valley College and am looking forward to beginning my nursing career very soon. I have been blessed to receive a job offer at the Peter Lougheed Centre on a unit with which I had completed a previous clinical experience. I am just awaiting my temporary practice permit and police check in order to officially complete the hiring process with Alberta Health Services. Also in the near future, I have plans to continue with my education working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care, but first and most of all, I look forward to spending some quality time with my family, as the last semester of school has been quite demanding with my time. Thanks to you, I am one step closer to that goal. By awarding me the Business and Professional Women s Club of Calgary Bursary, you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to meet not only the expense of obtaining my practice permit and CPNRE and Jurisprudence exam fees, but also for my family to meet our living expenses during the transition period from school to employment as a nurse. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals and to overcome their obstacles and financial hardships just as you have helped me. Kind Regards, Holly Doell

BPW Calgary Award Endowment Impact Report It is an honour to be this year s recipient of the Business and Professional Women s Club of Calgary Bursary. I am in the second semester of the Medical Office Assistant Program and am enjoying the experience and learning many useful skills for both employment and life. My goals is to work in a clinic that specializes in care for children or expectant mothers. I believe this will suit my interests and be a very rewarding career that I will enjoy for many years to come. I am a single mother to an eleven year old boy, we have been living in Calgary for just over three years. I chose to enroll at Bow Valley College because I have heard many wonderful recommendations about the programs offered and the success of students who have graduated from here. It is greatly appreciated and truly a blessing to have been chosen for this award. Your generosity will help me to reach my full potential in my studies and career goal. Sincerely, Kayla Sumner This bursary not only helped my finances, it also gave me hope. I will always remember this moment and do my best for school and life. I don t know how to thank you enough, I really appreciate it. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
