PROGRAM OVERVIEW This course is intended to provide the necessary information for development of an advanced comprehensive stroke program to hospital administrators, leaders and those medical professionals in the field of vascular neurology. The content and speakers were chosen to address the necessary elements for successful program development and will include sharing of lessons learned from the experience. WHO SHOULD ATTEND The target audience for this program includes vascular neurologists, interventional neurologists, vascular neurosurgeons, nurse practitioners and physicians assistants, stroke coordinators, emergency department physicians, radiologists, and administrative leaders with an interest in all types of stroke care. MEETING LOCATION UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, The Thomas E. Starzl Biomedical Science Tower S120 BST South, 200 Lothrop Street, 15213 STROKE SERVICE TOURS Tours of the acute stroke care areas at UPMC Presbyterian will include the helicopter landing area, emergency department, imaging facilities, interventional suite, and the neuro ICU and step-down units. OBJECTIVES By the conclusion of the presentation, the participant will be able to: Identify the essential components of stroke program development Differentiate between requirements of primary vs comprehensive stroke center certification Describe the benefit of telestroke collaboration to increase identification and treatment of acute ischemic stroke Discuss the financial constraints and requirements necessary for advanced stroke program development Assess the commitment and relationship necessary between the pre-hospital, emergency department and the stroke team List two types of advanced imaging used in the comprehensive stroke center assessment process Determine the neurosurgical team involvement and requirements in advanced stroke center development CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT The is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Other health care professionals are awarded 0.6 continuing education units (CEU s) which are equal to 6.0 contact hours. Nursing: The Medical Center (UPMC) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. This program is awarded 6.0 contact hours. Participants must attend the entire day and complete an evaluation form to be awarded a certificate and 6.0 contact hours. ~ 2 ~ ~ 3 ~
