overview The American Association for the History of Nursing (AAHN) is a professional organization open to everyone interested in the history of nursing. Originally founded in 1978 as a historical methodology group, the association was briefly named the International History of Nursing Society. The purpose of AAHN is to foster the importance of history as relevant to understanding the past, defining the present and influencing the future of nursing. Cleveland Clinic is honored to host the 30th Annual Conference of the American Association for the History of Nursing. Throughout the conference, we will celebrate the rich, vibrant history of the nursing profession and recognize 30 years of historical scholarship. The Stanley Shalom Zielony Institute for Nursing Excellence oversees the practice, development and education of more than 11,000 nurses within the Cleveland Clinic health system in inpatient, outpatient, rehabilitation and home care fields.
Keynote Address Presenter Naomi Rogers, PhD Associate Professor Yale School of Medicine Dr. Naomi Rogers is an associate professor in the Women s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and History of Medicine departments at the Yale School of Medicine. Her professional interests include the history of disease, public health, gender and medicine, nursing and alternative medicine in 19th and 20th century America. Her research interests span the topics of 20th century American medicine, diseases, public health, gender and medicine, nursing, alternative medicine and health policy. The Dittrick Medical History Center is comprised of the museum, archives and collections of rare books, artifacts and images. The Center originated as part of the Cleveland Medical Library Association (est. 1894) and today functions as an interdisciplinary study center within the College of Arts and Sciences of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
