BEYOND THE CALL: Karen Swiney, a counselor at Bowling Green High School, received a Beyond the Call award Monday night for her efforts to help a student dealing with a brain tumor. The student had no short term recall, and couldn't find his way around the building, or recognize teachers. For several weeks, Ms. Swiney met him after every class to take him where he needed to go, and waited for him outside every day. She even visited him in the hospital in Louisville after surgery and has continued to keep the school family updated on his progress. Ms. Swiney s commitment and compassion for all students is visible each day at BGHS, this is just one example of her efforts to go beyond the call.
