DUTIES: As a Laundry Worker you must be able to perform all routine laundry/linen production activities. These activities involve a sequence of several tasks requiring some skill and judgment an close attention to accuracy in following established procedures. Incumbent's duties will include operation of the spreader/feeder, ironer, folder, and stacker/conveyor. May also operate 100 and 200 pound dryers, small piece folder and garment tunnel finisher under supervision. Sorts soiled linen according to classification and degree of soil. Folds all types of clean linen, loads all linen and patient clothing carts, processes uniforms, cleans work area, and follows established procedures including safety and infection control. All duties are performed while standing, walking, bending, or stooping on concrete floor. Moderate to heavy lifting is required while loading and unloading machines, laundry carts, stacks of linen, and uniforms. You will also perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties. Duties include cleaning, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas. You will sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and blinds, wash walls, windows and ceilings by climbing ladders, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers and move furniture. May push and/or pull carts weighing up to 350 pounds. A Laundry Worker carries out assignments with a minimum of supervision. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position requires performance of work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as that involved in loading and unloading wet and/or soiled laundry. Pushing and pulling of laundry carts and needs to unload washers and dryers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilations. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Exposed to constant noise of machines, high temperatures, damp, steamy or drafty conditions and subject to disagreeable oders and excreta when working with soiled or contaminated linens. Frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence of specialized experience which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position, must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume or OF-612.
