Best practices in the areas of planning, family preparedness and support logistics will be discussed so participant agencies/companies can facilitate a more effective strategic response while attending to the personal needs of irst responders and their loved ones. Keynote Speaker Michael Geisler Chief Operating Of icer City of Atlanta Session #2: Evacuating Facilities with Unique Challenges This session will address the unique challenges associated with facilities, buildings and businesses that either cannot safely evacuate due to the nature of their respective functions or must evacuate without interrupting key and critical functions. Participants will learn from the area s leading public safety and private emergency management experts on what lessons have been learned by other disasters and what agencies and businesses need to do to be ready for a short term and long term evacuation period. Session #3: Communications in Crisis Situations Communications in emergency situations, particularly when an evacuation is imminent or has been ordered, is the foundation of crisis management. This session will discuss the challenges of communicating and coordinating emergency messaging and alerts in a crisis situation from both the public and private perspective, including the role of mass and social media. Our panel of experts will also spotlight some of the most effective and proven communications equipment and protocols that have been successfully deployed. As Chief Operating Of icer for the City of Atlanta, Geisler directly manages and oversees all city operating departments and related agencies including Aviation, Police, Fire, Corrections, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Planning and Community Development, Public Works, Watershed Management, Human Resources, Procurement, Information Technology, Sustainability and Enterprise Assets. Session #4: Equipment and Technology This session will present some of the latest equipment and technology solutions to help governmental and private agencies detect, respond to and mitigate an emergency situation. Appreciation Many agencies and individuals contributed time and effort in the planning and implementation of this Summit, and we are grateful to them all. However, we would be remiss if we failed to recognize the contributions of our speakers, all of whom took signi icant time out of their schedules to prepare their presentations and to participate in countless meetings and conference calls over the past several months. We also would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police; Georgia POST Council; ASIS of Greater Atlanta,; and the Georgia Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies for allowing continuing education credits to be awarded to attendees. In order for us to provide this training at no charge, we rely upon contributions from agencies and organizations that are willing to cover the costs of the training and the lunch. Those agencies are listed on the back of this program. Thanks to Our Staff This Summit would not have been possible without the hard work of several staff members. Please join us in thanking the following: Diana Todd of the U.S. Attorney s Of ice handled the registration process, and prepared all name tags and handout materials, working to insure that you have everything you need. Diana also will be handling the evaluations and the preparation of your Certi icates for continuing education credits. Ann Manuel, U.S. Secret Service, Sandra Rogers, DHS FPS, and Yvette Comer, U.S. Attorney s Of ice, handled registration, ensuring a smooth and ef icient registration process. They also served as troubleshooters for any problems that arose. Their assistance is very much appreciated. Finally, we are very grateful for the support of Dr. Gary A. McGaha, President of the Atlanta Metropolitan State College, for providing the beautiful conference center to us. We could not ask for a more hospitable host for this event. Michael D. Montgomery, Conference Center Manager, AMSC, spent a signi icant amount of time working with us to ensure that we had the space and set ups that we needed to make the event successful. Gwendolyn Glass, Catering Manager, AMSC, went above and beyond to make sure our breaks and meal services were outstanding. Thank you for attending the Sixth Annual Law Enforcement and Business Continuity Summit. We look forward to seeing you next year.
