Historical Sketch The McLeod Lecture Series is an annual event sponsored by the McNeese State University Banners Program and the Southwest Louisiana Legislative Delegation Archives. A steering committee guides the activities of both the archives acquisition program and the lecture series. Ann Knapp and Paul Hart Miller served as the first chairs of the steering committee. Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) tapes and airs each lecture series program. In conjunction with the lecture series, each year the steering committee chooses a student to research and write a paper about the event. The first program on March 18, 2004 featured a roundtable discussion of the Young Turks, a group of reform-minded Louisiana legislators. Future discussions focused on the Louisiana Governor s office; politics and the media; and Louisianians in the U.S. Congress. Participants in the programs vary and have included David C. Treen, Buddy Roemer, Mike Foster, John Breaux, J. Bennett Johnston, Beth Courtney of Louisiana Public Broadcasting, and journalist John Hill. See also the William L. Bill McLeod, Jr. Papers, Collection number 159. Scope and Content Note The McLeod Lecture Series Collection consists of materials depicting the various activities of the lecture series, the archives program, and the oral history program.
