The individual will ensure that all electrical tasks are completed and notifications are signed off. The electrical works will consist of all installations and switchgear in sub stations, buildings and facilities, including but not limited to all reticulation above and below ground, overhead and including power generation/standby equipment and distribution. 25 February 2015 Page 1 of 5 HR191
JOB CONTENT 1. Reactive Maintenance 40% Attend to all maintenance notifications specific to the electrical discipline. Inspect and determine method and sequence of operations to locate, install, test, repair or modify issues raised in notifications. Perform in-house repairs and monitor out-tasked contractor/s as and when required. Identify plant/installations under guarantee and refer to Residence Maintenance Co-coordinator. Communicate fault, repairs and frames to clients and Residence Maintenance Coordinator. Assist in coordinating and arranging of all access, permits i.e. hot works permits, lock out procedures, etc. with building users, traffic or health and safety departments. Monitor, repair and maintain all electrical installations. Ensure that complete jobs are signed off in accordance to SAP requirements. Assist the Coordinator in compiling and maintaining a database of all electrical repairs. Perform general building maintenance e.g. repair of door locks, replace curtain rails, sanitary fixtures and other minor repairs. Daily reactive maintenance faults are cleared and repairs accomplished efficiently, within budget and established frames. Clients/users are informed, kept up to date and maintenance response upheld. Repairs, fixes and minor alterations are carried out to the required and satisfactory standards as set by the area maintenance manager, trade practices, SABS wiring codes and regulations. Coordinator is kept informed of works within the electrical discipline and/or deviations. Ability to supervise, instruct and communicate with out-tasked contractor/s. an installation electrician with emphasis on maintenance and repair procedures including preventative maintenance. 25 February 2015 Page 2 of 5 HR191
JOB CONTENT CONTINUED 2. Planned Maintenance 30% Assist in monitoring and follow up that service schedules as provided by are adhered to. Inspect plant/installations after service Routine planned maintenance and repairs arising are accomplished efficiently and within budget and established frames. Reports are acted upon and all service work is checked and verified. Future repairs are anticipated, planned and scheduled and trends are defined and possible failures are brought to the attention of. an installation electrician. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. 3. Liaison and Monitoring 10% Act as liaison between area maintenance manager and engineering services or project appointed contractors. Switching and isolating of power supplies. Assist Coordinator with work carried out by engineering services or project appointed contractors. Required and satisfactory standards as set by the residence maintenance manager, trade practices, SABS wiring codes and regulations are met. Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act is met. JOB CONTENT CONTINUED 4. Inspection and Audits 10% Carry out regular inspections of electrical plant/installations and infrastructure within his/her area. Assist and carry out regular condition audits of electrical plant/installations and infrastructure within his/her area. Periodically inspect electrical plant/installations, infrastructure, sub stations, power generation and standby equipment. Assess, determine and undertake steps to prevent catastrophic failure. The Coordinator is assisted with preventative maintenance strategy. Possible future emergencies or failures are mitigated. Ensure further damage to the University s assets or buildings is prevented. an installation electrician. 5. General Support 10% Monitor on-site spares, materials and inventory for the electrical discipline. Provide temporary power supplies or standby power for special events or functions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Minimum Qualifications Electrical artisan with minimum NTC3 (NQF Level 4) OR deemed equivalent AND successful completion of an appropriate apprenticeship or successful passing of a recognized industry trade test. Minimum Experience 3 (Three) years appropriate experience, after completing trade test, in electrical works, building construction and maintenance. Additional Attributes Required Computer literacy Sound verbal and written skills Ability to keep accurate records Flexibility in respect of working hours Medically fit experiencing no difficulty with walking, hearing, eyesight, climbing steps or entering confined spaces with no fear of heights.
