Leigh Bakun Milander Class of 1990 Leigh was a three-sport standout throughout her time at Lenape High School, graduating in 1990. Through her contributions to the field hockey, track, and softball teams, Leigh set a high standard of accomplishment for future student-athletes to follow. In field hockey she was a team captain and M.V.P. and an All-County selection. In softball Leigh was a three-time team M.V.P. and earned several All-County, All-South Jersey, and All-State honors. She was also selected as the M.V.P. of the Hammonton Invitational Softball Tournament in 1990. Based on her collection of athletic accomplishments, Leigh was selected as Lenape High School s Outstanding Student-Athlete in 1990. Graduating with eleven varsity letters while serving as team captain for both field hockey and softball, and winning many team and individual awards at Lenape would not have been possible without the incredible support (and sacrifice) of her parents, Dan and Marie Bakun. The many hours spent training and competing on the field as a Lenape Indian prepared Leigh well for her athletic career at Penn State and fueled her life-long passion for sports. Leigh is extremely grateful to her Lenape teammates, coaches, and teachers for their commitment to her success as an outstanding studentathlete. Leigh also says a prayer of thanks to her brother Danny, who has always been her biggest fan and greatest source of inspiration. Rodger Carney Rodger Carney graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mt. Holly, NJ in 1958. He continued his education at Keystone Junior College in Pennsylvania and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for four years as an intelligence analyst in the USAF Security Service. Following his military service time, he resumed his studies at the University of Maryland and graduated in January of 1967. Mr. Carney eventually earned a Master of Education from Trenton State College (1973) and a Master of Arts in School Administration from Glassboro State College (1975). In 1982 Mr. Carney became the head coach of Lenape s Boys Tennis Team and continued in that capacity for 18 years until retirement in 1999. During that 18 year span Lenape s Varsity Tennis Team won 351 matches and lost only 126. The team won seven Burlington County Scholastic League Liberty Division Championships, the first ever in Lenape tennis history. During all 18 seasons the team was ranked in the Top Ten in South Jersey Boys Tennis, one of few teams to be so honored, attaining a high ranking of No. 2 in both 1993 and 1994. In both of those years, the team was ranked in the top 10 in the State of New Jersey, reaching No. 6 in 1994. During those 18 years dozens of Lenape athletes received recognition as All-Burlington County Scholastic League, All-Burlington County Liberty Division, All-South Jersey Group IV, All-South Jersey, and several were selected as All-State players. On numerous occasions Lenape tennis players were selected as the Player of the Year in Burlington County, and three times during Coach Carney s tenure a Lenape tennis player was selected as the South Jersey Tennis Player of the Year.

John Carroll Class of 1974 During his time at Lenape High School, John Carroll achieved the highest levels of success in our school s athletic programs. John was a multi-sport athlete, earning success in our soccer, swimming, and track programs. His achievements earned him a captain s position in both the soccer and swimming programs and team M.V.P. honors of the swim team. Prior to graduating from Lenape, John was named the Lenape High School Most Outstanding Student-Athlete in 1974. John s collegiate athletic career focused on swimming as he swam for Glassboro State College for four years while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1978. Recognized for his commitment to the sport of swimming and for being a national qualifier, John was named team captain of the swim team during his final collegiate season. Long an advocate for swimming in South Jersey, John is the manager and head swim coach at Jersey Wahoos and has coached Pan American, Pan Pacific, and Olympic swimmers. Russ Minuto A 1969 graduate of Rancocas Valley High School, Russ was a three-year varsity wrestler who won the District 26 Championship as a senior. He went to Kutztown University where he wrestled varsity for three years and graduated in 1973. Coach Minuto served Lenape High School for 25 years as an assistant softball coach and ten years as an assistant to Hall of Fame Wrestling Coach Sam Evangelista before taking over the head coaching position. During his twenty years as head wrestling coach at Lenape, his teams compiled a 303-57-2 record to rank tenth in South Jersey history. His teams won 13 district titles, 13 league, and 3 SJ Group IV championships along with 7 holiday, 5 Neptune Classic and 15 Burlington County titles. Coach Minuto s teams appeared in the sectional playoffs 18 times. Coach Minuto was selected as a six-time district Coach of the Year, two-time Region 7 Coach of the Year and also selected National Federation of Coaches Association Coach of the Year and New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Coach of the Year. Coach Minuto has been inducted in the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame, Rancocas Valley High School Hall of Fame, South Jersey Athletic Hall of Fame, and the New Jersey State Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Coach Minuto was fortunate enough to have coached 76 district, 30 regional and 60 holiday tournament individual champions, which resulted in 20 state place-winners, including two-time state champion Dave Miller. He was very blessed to have the support of his wife Janice and to have the opportunity to coach his three sons- Mark, Kurt, Scott- and to have his daughter Lisa as a wrestling manager.

Mark Roddy Class of 1973 Mark Roddy, a member of Lenape High School s Class of 1973, was an instrumental part of the early success of Lenape s cross country and track programs. Having run for Lenape s teams throughout his time here, Mark distinguished himself as an elite studentathlete, having earned All-South Jersey honors in track and All-State accolades in cross country. He also came in second place in the New Jersey Cross Country Tournament of Champions. After graduating from Lenape, Mark continued his athletic success at Gettysburg College, participating in their track and cross country programs while earning a degree in political science. As a result of his collegiate athletic achievements, Mark was named a Division III All-American in 1977. Now a criminal defense attorney in Pleasantville, Mark was named the Atlantic County Professional Lawyer of the Year in 2003. in 1965. Patricia Wells Yurcho Class of 1965 Patricia Wells Yurcho helped form the foundation of excellence in Lenape High School athletics that student-athletes have worked to achieve for years to come. This Class of 1965 graduate was a cornerstone of Lenape s field hockey, basketball, and softball programs. Having played for several legendary coaches, Pat made the most of her athletic opportunities and earned Lenape s Most Outstanding Student-Athlete Award Upon graduating from Lenape, Pat continued her academic and athletic career at Trenton State College, playing field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse at the collegiate level. Based on her accomplishments in the classroom and on the athletic fields, she was awarded the Dr. Lillyan Wright Physical Education Major of the Year Award at Trenton State College in 1969. Patricia s commitment to athletics has continued throughout her life. She has served as an NJSIAA official in track and field, basketball, and lacrosse. She has also participated as an athlete and coach in several recreation programs and has served as a Water Safety Instructor for more than 40 years.
