Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation Scholarship Program The Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation (hereafter referred as HRYF) was chartered as a non-profit charitable corporation in 1976 when Maurice J. Sullivan was the Rotary District Governor in Hawaii. One of its objectives is to provide scholarships for Hawaii s youth to further their education. HRYF administers a scholarship aid program for Hawaii high school students who will be attending a 4-year university or college in Hawaii or on the U.S. mainland. Scholarship funds are derived from investment income, gifts, donors, Rotarians and the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc. Eligibility Criteria: 1. Must be sponsored by a District 5000 Rotary Club. 2. Must be a graduating Hawaii high school senior who will be attending, as a full-time student, an accredited 4-year college or university in Hawaii or on the U.S. mainland to earn a baccalaureate degree. A full-time student is defined as taking a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester or equivalent. 3. Must be a U.S. citizen and legal resident of Hawaii prior to submittal of application. 4. In the interest of providing as many scholarships as possible to students in Hawaii, ineligible are: a) Rotarians or their spouse, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, brothers or sisters. b) Anyone entering a U.S. Military Service Academy. c) Anyone receiving a multi-year scholarship or a full tuition scholarship. d) Anyone attending a university or college outside the United States. Criteria for Selection: 1. Academic achievement, scholarship merit and financial need. 2. Personal involvement in campus, community activities and employment experience. Scholarships Available: 1. $5,000 scholarship to attend an accredited 4-year Hawaii or U.S. mainland university or college or 2. One (1) Maurice J. Sullivan Scholarship Award of $10,000 to attend a university or college on the U.S. mainland or 3. One (1) Joanna L. Sullivan Scholarship Award of $10,000 to attend a university or college in Hawaii. The scholarship is non-transferable, cannot be deferred, and is a one-year grant that need not be repaid. Enrollment must be in the Fall of the calendar year the scholarship is awarded. Scholarships will be disbursed directly to the applicant s college or university. The HRYF and Weinberg Scholarship programs are administered without regard to race, creed, color, age, religion, sex, national origin or physical disability.

Scholarship forms are available through your high school counselor, Rotary club in your area or our website at www.hawaiirotaryyouthfoundation.org. a) Save the fillable Scholarship Application Form file onto a computer. b) Enter all the required information into the fillable Scholarship Application Form. c) Print the completed Scholarship Application Form. d) Sign the printed hardcopy Scholarship Application Form. 2. Contact and submit your completed Scholarship Application package to only one (1) Rotary club where you live or where you attend high school to sponsor your application. (Refer to the List of Rotary Club Contacts.) The application package shall consist of the following documents: a. Completed and signed hardcopy of the Scholarship Application Form. b. Signed hardcopy of the Recommendation for Scholarship from an unrelated present faculty member and completed form. c. Signed hardcopy of the Recommendation for Scholarship from an unrelated member of the community who has known the applicant for over 2 years and completed form. d. A copy of the applicant s high school transcript. e. A copy of the applicant s SAT and/or ACT scores. f. A copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) with Effective Family Contribution (EFC) ora copy of all pages of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form with EFC that was sent to the mainland for processing. g. Applicant s Personal Statement. h. Applicant s Academic Achievements Statement. i. Applicant s Campus, Community and Employment Activities Statement. j. Completed Financial Aid Data. Application Due Date: The applicant s completed Scholarship Application package, including all required enclosures, must be postmarked or received by a District 5000 Rotary Club by the Application Due Date specified at the top of the first page of the Scholarship Application Form. 3. Participate in a Rotary Club interview. 4. If applicant is selected by the sponsoring Rotary Club, participate in an Area interview.

Scholarships Available: The Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation Scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship granted to graduating Hawaii high school senior students who will be attending an accredited 4-year university or college in the United States on a full-time basis. There are two (2) additional $10,000 Special Award Scholarships which may be granted: 1. Maurice J. Sullivan Scholarship for students attending a university or college on the U.S. Mainland, and 2. Joanna L. Sullivan Scholarship for a student attending a university or college in Hawaii. The scholarships are non-transferable and are a one-year grant mailed directly to the university or college in July of the year they are awarded. The scholarship cannot be deferred for future use.
