PTO Meeting Minutes January 15, 2013 Meeting began at 8:45am Attendees o Laura Dantuono, Shelly Robertson, Tammy Yee, Julie Erwin, Karen Compton, Stephanie Nowakowski, Arica Schmehl, Wendy DiJanni, Susan Gregg, Jessica Drake, Laura Hickey, Lauren Smith Welcome o Laura Dantuono Thank you to all volunteers for their help with Dinner with Santa. Dinner with Santa turned out very good! Treasurer s Report o Lin Krankel Not able to attend; please see attachments for budget Per Laura, we did well with Dinner with Santa, under budget. We received approximately $1200 from Box Tops from the 2012 school year submission. Principal s Report o Mrs. Smith The school staff is following the Superintendent s directions for school safety. Visitors will notice the front doors are open, visitors please sign in at the office!! There is a district cabinet that meets every couple of weeks and they are looking into a long-term solution for school safety. Paint Creek has routine safety drills, which are staggered throughout the year (Fire drills, tornado drills, code red drills). The drill schedule is submitted to Oakland County Sheriff, Fire Marshall & the ORS office prior to school starting so, they can observe the drills. All walkie-talkie s have been replaced paid by the LO district. Special Thank you to Mrs. Grund & Mrs. Zdrojewski for running the Girls on the Run program. This program is available for 4 th & 5th grade girls, helping to build their self-esteem. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Grund or Mrs. Zdrojewski. If any parent would like to run a program like the above, please contact Mrs. Smith. Common Core is on track. This will help to compare where MI schools stands compare to other states and as a nation to other countries. Writers Work Shop aligns with Common Core as well as math lesson delivery. Homework Club will be available by invitation only at the Parker Estate in January. Grant dollars are used, There was a summer program at the Parker Estates and had very good results.

A Homework Club will be held at Paint Creek School as well, date is to be determined. This is by invitation only as well for grades 3 to 5. A Power Program will be held for grades K-2 by invitation only. This program will target specific skills, i.e. fluency Teacher s Report o Mrs. Boyer not available. Thank you for providing a printed report! Please see attached sheet. Committee Updates o Dinner with Santa Laura Dantuono & Lin Krankel wrap up Thank you Kim and Stephanie. Thank you to the dads for printing the pictures. Thank you to all volunteers who helped out! New items at Dinner with Santa: Stories in the library, photo booth, all went well! Event turned out good, ran smoothly and under budget. o Valentine Party Laura Hickey & Arica Schmehl Ice cream and water will be provided by the PTO; supplies will be provided by classroom volunteers Laura will compile a list of volunteers for early entry for party set-up, 2 volunteers per classroom. o Market Day Stephanie Nowakowski March is bonus day, desserts; since it s bonus day, maybe extra fundraiser? Looking into where extra monies could be allocated. 4 th & 5 th grade will be having a Morley Candy fundraiser for their end of the year field trip. Market Day pies sales earned just over $1100. o Assemblies Kim Gaskey All set: March 19 th Magic of Reading & May 1 st World of Music The assemblies did qualify for grants. o Box Tops Pam Zdrojewski Pam not available for meeting. Did receive approximately $1200 check from Box Top submissions. Next collection prize be awarded to student with most Box Tops collected. o Science Fair Jessica Drake All set. Have judges, who are community members, no faculty members are judges. Approximately 60 students signed up so far. Art Fair is all set as well. Students signed name on labels instead of having printed labels. o Yearbook Arica Schmehl Email great pictures to Arica if you would them added to yearbook. Limited space this year, due to reduce page count. Vote on a cover for yearbook March 15 th is the deadline for the yearbook Software is working good o Carnival Friday, May 31 st

Anyone who would like to help out, please contact one of the PTO board members Student Council to help run games again this year New Business o March is reading month may have a reading therapy dog available for students to read for a small monetary donation. Elena Oborne has a contact person, will provide more information. o Books for reading month still looking for a good deal Upcoming Events o Science/Art Fair: Thursday, January 24 th o Valentine Parties: Thursday, February 14 th o Variety Show: Thursday, February 28 th PTO Meetings for the Year o March 12 th @ 6:30 pm o May 7 th @ 8:30 am Meeting end @ 9:40 am
