Central Community College CARE Team Consultation/Assessment/Resources/Education The CARE Team will be available for consultation with campus community members regarding students whose behaviors are of concern because they may pose a threat to themselves or others. Team functions include: C onsultation Address concerns regarding the safety and well-being of students by drawing upon professional expertise within the campus community. Facilitate consistent communication between departments. Assessment Determine referred student s need for emotional, psychological or physical support and refer to appropriate resources. Complete health and wellness needs analysis for campus community. Resources Identify resources available both on campus and in the community and foster positive collaborative relationships with them. Promote our campus resources to students. Education Provide professional development and training opportunities for faculty/staff response to students in distress (ex: suicide prevention). Promote proactive psycho-educational seminars on wellness related topics for students (conflict resolution, stress management, etc.).

Elevated Risk Student s behavior displays an imminent threat to self or others. (e.g., thoughts of suicide, threatening harm towards others). CARE Team recognizes a mental health concern, counseling need, security risk or CARE team issue. A CARE Team member will be in contact with you if more information is needed. The Central Community College Campuses first began work to develop the CARE Team in 2014. The purpose of this team is to help numerous students, faculty and staff address behavioral and emotional concerns for some of our most vulnerable students. The CARE Team serves as a proactive intermediary addressing student behavioral intervention. The CARE Team consults regarding students of concern, assesses and classifies threat or risk, and makes a recommendation of action to the Associate Dean of Student Services. The purpose of the CARE Team is to: Assist students in distress through consultation with concerned faculty, staff and students Provide consistent communication throughout campus Serve as a referral to resources both on and off campus Implement a preventative intervention utilizing formalized protocols of engagement techniques and strategies.
