THE BULLETIN American Legion Paso Del Norte Post 58 Jose Ontiveros Commander Charles Moore - Adjutant Volume 61 Issue No. 7 April 2017 From the Commander: Members of Post 58, please don t forget our 16 th District Convention to be held on April 7 9, 2017 here at Post 58, please try to come and support the post and show the district that we are a United Post and our members are proud to be part of it, and show your unity by, showing up for the meetings. Also please be aware that the end of our terms as officers of the post is approaching quickly and our elections will take place in June 2017, we will put out the election board in the entrance of Post so everybody can see who is running or would like to run, just inform our Adjutant to add your name to the list of the positions you are interested in running for. I d like the opportunity to run as your commander once again, I have taken this position seriously and now that we have our Post in good shape and finances in order, I am asking for your support and come vote for the officers who will commit to the task and make sure everything that our post needs gets taken care of. I have been your commander for the past four years and have been working hard to make sure our membership stays strong and encourage all our officers to ask the members to renew membership in order to maintain 100 % membership for the post and have successfully accomplished our goals and increased our membership. In the past 4 years we have been able to bring back our bingo, dart and pool patrons who help keep our post financially stable and to include adding 4 more V-Sweep machines that generate the money to offset our obligations of the post, I have also repaired and had the windows replaced, kept up with the maintenance of the building, which is not a simple task, but have officers like Bob Santa Barbara who is on top of all the repairs of the building. We have successfully continued to help our veterans, our community and met most of our obligations as Legionnaires, sending several kids to Boys State, which cost the post approximately $750.00 per student. I give thanks to Renslar Keagle our chaplain who also holds several positions with our post, to include Americanism and has done an awesome job for the Post. Just to let you know, American Legion Paso Del Norte Post 58 is possibly the only post in El Paso, Texas working with all the four pillars of the American Legion, we are a proud post and all of members should be proud to be part of this great organization which was enacted back in 1919 for this exact purpose. If you require any information please feel free to contact me directly on my cell phone 915-799-9680. In closing, please keep your prayers coming for Doris Cadena who is still at the McKinley house, and the families of the members we have lost to Post Everlasting which is a total of 15 members of Post 58 during July 2016 to present. For God and Country Jose Ontiveros Commander Post 58

Vice Commander John Lugo Getting ready for second quarter and our District Convention in April, we continue moving forward and in the right direction. It is essential to review the calendar for great upcoming events this year. Everyone s support is crucial as we make events based on participation, support of the functions and donations to our great organizations. Let s be proud of our post and all the organizations; support, sponsor and respect all functions, as we continue to be one family. Membership We appreciate every one keeping our post strong; our membership is the blood flow that keeps us going. We are recruiting for our new year we are around 625 including renewals and new members. Please get your renewals for 2017, our goal is 734 and I have faith in our post that we will meet or exceed that challenge with all your support. Renew your membership today. Our Motto still Only You Can Make it Happen Sick Call Post Everlasting Doris Cadena is at McKinley House on McKinley. Auxiliary President Lily Lugo Hello Ladies, March madness is over and as a team we have accoplished quite a bit with a successful St Patricts, with that said, I would like to thank all the lady s that participated and donate, thank you. I am looking forward to contnue working and seeing everyone in the convention in April. Till then please be safe and remember our next meeting is April 12, at 7 pm. Your presedent LiLia Lugo Sons of the American Legion Commander David Griego II Adjutant Renslar Renny Keagle I have quite a stack of cards still left for renewals, if you have not renewed, you are no longer in good standing and have lost post privileges. Remember why you joined, to honor the service of a male member of your family. We should all, even those of us who also carry American Legion cards, be proud of our membership. Renewal is only $13.00. S.A.L. members have been participating in the Flags for First Graders Program supporting our youth and community. We have started giving out our medical Josh Dogs and more will be distributed soon. Next event for Squadron 58 is the upcoming Spring Convention to be held at Post 58. Friday night, April 7 th is the first night of the convention and the S.A.L. will be hosting a Bratwurst Dinner at the Post for those attending the convention and members of the post. Even if you are not attending the convention, please stop by and support your Son of the American Legion. A brat is only $5, $7.50 with fries and $11.00 for two brats and fries available with sauerkraut, brown mustard, etc. Funds raised go to support our programs. Renny Keagle, Adjutant

Boy Scouts Troop 213 Charter Representative - Renslar Renny Keagle Troop 213 just held a very successful Spaghetti Dinner and did very well financially to support the troop and raise money for their annual summer camp. AND the spaghetti was awesome. These are done a couple of times a year and if you missed this one don t miss the next. We have a couple of Life scouts working on Eagle projects. If you are a WWII, Korean or Vietnam veteran and would like to help one of the scouts in their project by participating in the Library of Congress s Veterans History Project a short interview, please let me know. Stop by any Monday evening to get more details or to learn more about what Troop 213 is doing. Renny Keagle Charter Representative Chaplain Chaplain Renslar Renny Keagle It goes without saying we deeply regret the passing of our recent members. Many of our members are in ill health, please let us know who they are so we can keep them in our prayers. (Prayer - Jesus, you said, There is no greater love than to lay down one s life for one s friends. Today we pray for those men and women who have, in their military service, sacrificed their time, strength, ambition, health and even their lives on this earth to benefit friends, known and unknown. Many of our warriors carry scars in their hearts as well as on their bodies. Dark memories haunt their dreams at night. Fears cloud their waking hours. Jesus, you came to give us abundant life by providing a way for us to release our pain to you. On the cross you bore our sorrows and brokenness and when we trust you, we can exchange our wounds for your joy in a future unhindered by fate. Bring this gift now to the veterans of our nation who bear tangible and intangible wounds. Heal them, Jesus. Amen) Renny Keagle, Chaplain Americanism Director Renslar Renny Keagle We have a bar, serve food, do darts and have bingo but it all means nothing without supporting our community. Members of our post, the S.A.L. and 40-8 have been out in our community. Our most recent event was at Milam Elementary School on Fort Bliss (Biggs Field) where 125 first graders were given a program on the meaning and importance of our flag, flag etiquette, etc. Each child was given their own U.S. Flag on a pedestal for their room, an American Legion illustrated book on the flag, and a coloring book on the Pledge of Allegiance. In April the same program will be provided Logan Elementary and we will finish off the school year at Nixon Elementary in May. We are in the final stages of this year s Boys State Program. Students from Del Valle and Coronado High Schools have completed their applications and their tuition sent to Department. We have identified an excellent student at Andress who is completing his application. I went to Del Valle this week and presented our attendee from last year his medal and certificate. Our membership should be very proud of this program. Other projects coming up Flags Across American will be bringing a lot of flags to Post 58 for disposal soon the 40-8 flag disposal team will properly dispose of them and of course Americanism activities surrounding Memorial Day and Flag Day. Renslar Renny Keagle Americanism Chairman American Legion Riders Director: Mike Richmond (Shorty) March 4: Several members of the Legion Riders Chapter 58 joined over 100 riders from Texas, New Mexico and Arizona to participate in a Patriot Guard Mission. The riders rode to Corona NM to participate in a Memorial to honor one of their own. March 12: The Legion Riders participated in a motorcycle run sponsored by the Rough Riders MC. Proceeds benefited local charities. March 19: The Legion riders participated in a motorcycle run sponsored by the Lumbre MC. Proceeds went to the Reynolds House. The Legion Riders will continue to support our local community

organizations by participating in motorcycle runs like the ones mentioned above. These events will be taking place throughout the month and through the rest of the summer and into the early fall. Throughout the month, the Legion Riders continue to assist the Patriot Guard Riders in escorting our Veterans to their final resting place. We would also like to congratulate Thomas Chu Chu Purinton as our new Road Captain. Good luck and be safe!
