MCHS DISTRICT #111 In Illinois, public education is the state s constitutional responsibility. The state delegates the authority to govern school districts to local school boards. Boards are made up of seven district residents elected at-large to serve staggered terms of four years without pay. So, although the board is politically responsible to district voters, it is legally responsible to the state. Specifically, the MCHS District #111 Board of Education works to: adopt goals and policies that meet state requirements and reflect community needs; provide the resources necessary to pursue its goals according to its policies; and monitor district performance to see that results are consistent with goals and policies. The MCHS District #111 Board of Education operates under a committee structure. Committees consist of two to three Board members, along with Administrative advisors. The committee structure allows Board members to study issues in depth, and assist in forming recommendations for action by the full Board. Committee work takes place in open meetings, which are posted in the same manner as regular meetings. However, no action can be taken at a committee meeting. All action and business by the Board of Education is conducted during regular Board meetings. The Board of Education meets on the first and third Thursday of each month (exceptions are noted with *). All meetings are held in the MCHS - Central Campus Career Center and begin at 6:30 p.m. Listed below are the meeting dates for the 2016-2017 MCHS school year: August 17, 2017 September 7, 2017 September 21, 2017 October 5, 2017 *October 18, 2017 November 2, 2017 *November 14, 2017 December 21, 2017 January 18, 2018 February 1, 2018 February 15, 2018 March 1, 2018 March 15, 2018 April 5, 2018 April 19, 2018 May 3, 2018 May 17, 2018 June 21, 2018 Mr. Michael Brozovich President Member Since 2013 Next Election - Spring 2021 Mrs. Patti Ruettiger Vice-President Member Since 2013 Next Election - Spring 2021 Mrs. Wendi Arlis Secretary Member Since 2014 Next Election - Spring 2021 Ms. Cherie Barnes General Member Member Since 2017 Next Election - Spring 2021 Mrs.Lori Lakota General Member Member Since 2015 Next Election - Spring 2019 Mrs. Kristine Shipla General Member Member Since 2015 Next Election - Spring of 2019 Mr. Lawrence Troutman General Member Member Since 2015 Next Election - Spring 2019 SCHOOL MESSENGER MESSAGING SYSTEM MCHS District #111 uses the School Messenger Messaging System to provide families with timely telephone and e-mail based communication in both emergency (school closings, dog searches, etc.) and non emergency (event reminders, school updates, etc.) situations. Please be sure to have upto-date telephone and e-mail contact information on file with the district so you receive these important messages. For more information, please contact MCHS District #111 Community Relations Office at 815-467-2140, ext. 5034. HANDBOOK & POLICY INFORMATION At the beginning of the school year, your child will receive a copy of the handbook (as part of his/her daily planner). In addition to your child s printed copy, parents can also view the handbook online at www.mchs.net or request a printed copy of the document from the main office at either campus. For more information, please contact the MCHS District #111 Community Relations Office at 815-467-2140, ext. 5034.
