January 16, 2013, HRSA Conference Call February 10-13, 2013 (presenter) March 15, 2013 Conference Call (Committee Member) Academic Instruction (Overview) CSU, Los Angeles I taught 16 different pre-licensure, RN-BSN, and graduate MSN courses at CSULA, including serving as the point person for development of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program from 1996-1998. I had very high student evaluations, and mentored new faculty in their instruction. CSU, Fullerton, my teaching assignments have included undergraduate and graduate research courses, and student evaluations have been very high, usually exceeding the School average with high and very high student satisfaction levels. Past 5 years at CSU, Fullerton: NURSING N595A, N595B, N597A, N597B Project Culminating Experience Courses, N598A, N598B Thesis Courses and N505B Research Methods Seminar. For the previous five years (early-mid 2000), I was the lead faculty member for culminating project and thesis courses. In that role, I oriented new faculty to these courses, review and summarized annual student course summary reports for quality improvement. I initiated a Culminating Outcomes for Graduate Students (COGS) web page to serve the students enrolled in thesis, project, or comprehensive examination culminating experiences for

Latham 14 of 15 access to guidelines, support, and a final document archive. The COGS web page also was used for faculty communication about students work and to coordinate the diverse, off-site partnership programs affiliated with the School of Nursing, All Project, Thesis, and Research Seminar courses utilize a web course template (Blackboard, now Titanium).. Grant work has augmented academic instruction in the School of Nursing. Two grants that support academic instruction in the School of Nursing that were funded in the past five years include the Graduate Assistance in Area of National Need (GAANN) from the U.S. Department of Education and the Workforce Improvement Project, Nursing Workforce Diversity, Workforce Improvement Project (WIP) Grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, HRSA, Division of Nursing. I have been the sole author and project director of many Traineeship Grants from the U.S. DHHS, HRSA, Division of Nursing that provide financial assistance for graduate students. As part of the GAANN Grant, I wrote, received consensus and used the Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant Student and Faculty Guidelines for the School of Nursing. I also utilized the Epsilon web site for GAANN Fellow portfolios, initiated a blog site for student feedback about best practices that were shared by students as part of their teaching assignments. As part of the WIP Grant, I initiated student peer mentoring, faculty-student mentoring, and a new School of Nursing Writing Center that is staffed by senior writing tutors from OLLI.
