DeutscherAkademischerAustauschDienst GermanAcademicExchangeService Scholarships for the Master s programme Heritage Conservation and Site Management at Helwan University, Cairo Start: October 2017 Announcement for applicants from Arab countries affected by civil war and conflicts Goal of the Programme The Master Programme Heritage Conservation and Site Management (HCSM) with the focus on Heritage in Conflict is an interdisciplinary programme for students with at least a first level scientific degree ( bachelor's level ). These studies should have been acquired mainly in the fields of archeology, tourism, architecture, restoration and (art) history (The equivalence of other study degrees has to be determined by the Scientific Board). The programme is focused on transferring knowledge and methodologies necessary for the administration and management of archaeological sites, which include the following academic fields: conservation strategies and methods, strategic heritage management and planning, visitor management, presentation and interpretation, as well as general leadership skills and knowledge of the tourist sector. Graduates will be able to approach among other things the documentation and long-term security of war and disaster -related damage to physical cultural property in a sufficient manner. Knowledge of "Disaster & Risk Management for Cultural Heritage and Heritage in Conflict will be achieved. With the scholarship 10 refugees from Arab countries affected by civil war and conflicts (mainly from Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Libya) will get a qualification in heritage management with the focus on conflict and disaster areas. The variety of subjects will furthermore endow graduates with the multidisciplinary skills required in the significance assessment, management and protection of archaeological sites. The curriculum also includes two practical study projects and the Master s thesis. The language of instruction is English. Upon successful completion of the study programme, students will be awarded the degree Master of Arts. Target Group The target group of this Master s programme are young graduates of Archaeology, Architecture, Tourism, Conservation, (Art) History, or other relevant study fields. Applications are open to participants from the following countries: Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Libya. Duration 2 years, starting winter semester 2017/2018 What is funded? The provided scholarships will be full scholarships and will be available for the regular study duration. The DAAD awards a monthly scholarship of 500. Exempted from this regulation are only students whose mother tongue is English resp. citizens from countries in which English is the official language. Explanation of the grading system Copy of valid id / passport The application has to be in English. Applications that are not complete will be excluded from the selection procedure. Selection A selection committee will nominate the candidates for a scholarship. Aside from the study achievements and the academic quality of the applicant, the most important selection criterion will be a convincing personal presentation of his/her professional and personal motivation for participating in this programme. The candidate has to introduce himself/herself personally to a committee. After awarding the scholarship a regular achievement control takes place through the course of studies. With no fulfilment of the required performance, the DAAD reserves itself the right to finish the scholarship prematurely.
