April 2017 Connecting Church and Community Fairview United Methodist Church Maryville, Tennessee April 23, 2017 April 29, 2017 From the Pastor s Desk Wasn't our experience of worship on Easter amazing, beyond our expectations even?! Some of our new church family who were having their first Easter experience with us were absolutely overjoyed by their experience. We couldn't have had a more perfect morning for a sunrise service; and our youth choir and Gilbert preaching did a wonderful job. The altar area was just stunning in a burst of spring colors, our orchestra was enhanced by a group of young adult string players, and the choir and soloists - wow! I'm running out of adjectives. Easter was wonderful! So, let me ask you, how have you been doing since Easter? Are you still on your Easter high, or are you coming off the high? As much as we would like to preserve the "mountain-top" experience, we simply can't. That's why we come back week-after-week. We are Easter people, and every Sunday is a "little Easter." "Christ Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed!" What happens in your life after the announcement that the tomb is empty? Where do you go? What do you do? Who are you with? Does Easter in anyway change the way you approach your struggles knowing the victory has been won? Over the next two Sundays we are going to be looking at two of the post-easter appearances of Jesus to his disciples; it's been said they sometimes should be called the "duh-ciples." Perhaps that's true of us too when we forget so soon the power of the empty tomb. So this Sunday, we're going to be looking at "'Faith-ful' Thomas" (John 20.19-31), and in two weeks we will look at the end of Luke 24 at the story of the Emmaus road experience. This weekend our sixth grade Fusion Sunday School class will be on retreat at Lake Junaluska with 200 other youth from all over the southeast. The group will be accompanied by leaders and parents as we learn what it means to offer God our: prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Please pray for this group, both as they are on retreat, and as we move toward the Confirmation Service on May 7, 6:00 p.m. We are Easter people! Alleluia! Pastor Mickey
