JBSA-MILITARY & FAMILY READINESS SERVICES The Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Military & Family Readiness Centers (M&FRC) are dedicated to providing a full range of quality programs and services that promote self-reliance, mission readiness, resiliency and ease adaptation into the military way of life. It s a chance to voice your ideas and provide feedback. Issues pertain to many different subject areas, from health care to child care, housing to force protection, employment to recreation, education and more. It s everything that affects our military community. SUBMIT YOUR COMMENTS In Person - AFAP comment boxes are placed at various location across JBSA and at all M&FRC locations. All DoD ID cardholders - Service Members of any branch (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, and Coast Guard no matter what status), military spouses, teens, retirees, survivors, DoD civilian employees (Appropriated and Non-appropriated), and family members may submit an issue. The JBSA-School Liaison Office (SLO) Build-a-Backpack program provides backpacks full of school supplies to military families experiencing financial hardships. This give students an opportunity to start school with all the supplies they need to be successful. All filled backpack donations must be turned in no later than by Aug 10. Backpacks may be dropped off at any JBSA-M&FRC or JBSA-Library. First Sergeants, M&FRC Financial Counselors, MFLC, and Family Advocacy may nominate eligible families to receive a backpack by contacting the SLO no later than Aug 10. WIC Services now offered on Fort Sam Houston The JBSA-Fort Sam Houston Military & Family Readiness Center has partnered with the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program to bring services closer to military families. A clerk and either a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Nutritionist for WIC will be on-site every first Tuesday and third Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., to help families determine if they meet financial requirements for the supplemental nutritional program. Breastfeeding support and counseling services are open to all JBSA patrons. To learn more about the WIC program or to schedule an appointment, call (210) 674-7739. RELOCATION ASSISTANCE (210) 221-2705 Reduce or eliminate problems arising due to frequent moves with specialized services such as: individual or group counseling; sponsorship and pre-arrival information; mandatory overseas briefings and post-move orientations; lending closet; and immigration services. LENDING CLOSET Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed 1st & 3rd Thursday 1-4 p.m. The Lending Closet loans basic household goods while yours are in transit; kitchen equipment, high chairs, sleeping mats, irons and more. Permanent party, students, TDY, retirees and civilians may borrow items up to 30 days. Please bring a copy of your orders. NEWCOMER S ORIENTATION & SPOUSE INFORMATION FAIR Aug 4, 18, 31 & Sept 15 8 a.m. to Noon Mandatory in-processing briefing for all military and civilian personnel newly assigned to JBSA. All patrons must be seated by 7:50 a.m.; service members must coordinate with their Unit Personnel. The Spouse Information Fair M&FRC JBSA-FSH is held in conjunction the Newcomer s Orientation. Vendors and supporting agencies will be on-site to meet with patrons at 10:30 a.m. CITIZENSHIP & IMMIGRATION ASSISTANCE Aug 8 & Sept 12 9 a.m. to Noon Aug 22 & Sept 26 9 a.m. to Noon, Ceremony 2 p.m. Meet with a Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) Officer for assistance with applications. Join us in observing service members and their families take the Oath of Allegiance at the Naturalization Ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. and welcome them as new U.S. citizens. Registration is not required. RELOCATION & OVERSEAS ORIENTATION Aug 9 & Sept 13 10-11 a.m./ 2-3p.m. Mandatory for personnel E-5 and below; topics covered include: entitlement, shipment of household goods, emotional stressors of relocation, employment, and education. Only one session is needed. SPONSORSHIP APPLICATION TRAINING Aug 16 & Sept 20 2-3 p.m. A mandatory training that reviews roles and responsibilities of military sponsors. Complete trainings, review checklists, newcomer needs assessments, welcome packets and more online with the Electronic Sponsorship Application & Training (esat), https://myhub. militaryonesource.mil. TRAILS & TALES GUIDED TOUR Aug 25 & Sept 22 8-11 a.m. A guided tour of Fort Sam Houston; learn about old and new structures that share a rich history dating back more than 150 years.
