Lieutenant Colonel Brian Russell Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Brian Russell earned his commission through the NROTC program at North Carolina State University where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering in December 1995. Upon graduation from The Basic School in July 1996 he reported to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for instruction in the United States Army Field Artillery Basic Officers Course. Graduating in January 1997, Lieutenant Colonel Russell then reported for duty with 1st Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. There he served as a Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer and Executive Officer for Battery C. During this tour, he completed a six month deployment in the Mediterranean while his battery was attached to Battalion Landing Team 2/2 in support of the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit. In March of 1999, Lieutenant Colonel Russell was reassigned to the 2d Force Service Support Group where he served as the G-3 Current Operations Officer and G-3 Fire Support Coordinator. He served concurrently as the OIC of the Group's Battle Skills Training School, Motor Vehicle Incidental Drivers School, II MEF MIMMS School and the Marksmanship Training Unit. In May 2001 Lieutenant Colonel Russell was then ordered to Quantico Virginia to serve as a Platoon Commander for Company E (PLC Seniors) at Officer Candidates School in advance of his attendance at Amphibious Warfare School. Upon graduation, Lieutenant Colonel Russell reported to 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment in Kaneohe Bay Hawaii and was assigned as the Assistant Operations Officer. In May 2003 he was given command of Battery C and deployed across the Pacific Theater in support of regional security objectives. In 2004, he was selected by Headquarters, Marine Corps to serve as the Company Grade monitor for the Field Artillery community and several other occupational fields: Armor Officer, Amphibious Assault Vehicle Officer, Public Affairs Officer, Legal Officer and Military Police Officer; Restricted Target Acquisition Officer, TMO Officer, Food Service Officer, Combat Camera Officer, Legal Administration Officer, Band Officer, Corrections Officer, Criminal Investigation Officer and Range Officer. In September 2006, Lieutenant Colonel Russell reported to Camp Lejeune, NC for duty as the Senior Advisor of Military Transition Team (MiTT) 8 and deployed to Iraq in December of that year to serve as the Senior Advisor for the 2d Battalion, 3d Brigade, 1st Iraqi Army Division in Habbaniyah. He returned to the United States in December 2007 and reported to the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS. Upon graduation in December 2008, he was assigned to 5th Battalion, 10th Marines to serve as its Executive Officer. Four months later he deployed with the battalion to Afghanistan as part of the 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade's deployment into Helmand Province and participated in Operations Khanjar and Moshtarak. In June of 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Russell transferred to Marine Corps Force Special Operations Command (MARSOC) where he served as the AC/S G-37 Training Officer and AC/S G-35 Force Employment Officer. During this tour he deployed to Afghanistan to serve as the Combined Joint Special Operations Command-Afghanistan J5 Plans Officer where he was responsible for planning Foreign Internal Defense operations in concert with Afghan Army Special Operations Forces across the country. In addition to his Professional Military Education, Lieutenant Colonel Russell holds a Masters Degree in Theological Studies from Liberty University. His personal awards include the Bronze Star (2d Award), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2d Award), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2d Award), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Lieutenant Colonel Russell is married to the love of his life, Cathy. They have two sons: Jacob and Ian and a daughter Abby. Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Sims Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Nicklas Sims earned his commission from the Officers Candidate Course after graduating from Texas University with a Bachelor Degree in Economics. Upon graduation from The Basic School in December 1998, he reported to Ft Sill, Oklahoma for instruction in the United States Army Field Artillery Basic Officers Course. Graduating in June 1999, Lieutenant Colonel Sims reported for duty with Battery S 5th Battalion, 10th Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He served as a Forward Observer, Liaison Officer, Fire Direction Officer, and Executive Officer. During this tour he completed a six month deployment to Okinawa and Camp Fuji, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program. In May of 2002, Lieutenant Colonel Sims reported to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey, California as a student to complete his Master of Business Administration in Defense Systems Analysis. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps, Programs and Resources in the Pentagon as the Land Forces Analyst. He served there from January to May 2004, when he was nominated as an individual augment to advise the Iraqi Army. He deployed to Baghdad, Iraq as an Infantry Company Advisor to the 2d Battalion, 1st Brigade Iraqi Intervention Force. During this period, he participated in combat actions in Southern Baghdad, An Najaf, and Fallujah. Following this tour, he returned to Programs and Resources in January 2005 where he served as Division Analyst for the 2006 Quadrennial Defense Review and as a modeling and simulation risk assessor for budget formulation., Lieutenant Colonel Sims reported to 1st Battalion 10th Marines as the Commanding Officer of Battery B. Upon aggregation of the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Sims attached his battery to Battalion Landing Team 3/8. During the deployment, he served as Commander of Troops on board the USS PONCE. Following the deployment and change of command, he was assigned as the Officer in Charge of Military Transition Team 130 (3d Brigade, 1st Iraqi Quick Reaction Force) in May 2008. From September 2008 to September 2009, Lieutenant Colonel Sims and his team conducted combat operations with their Iraqi Brigade initially in Diyala and then for 11 months in Mosul. Upon completion of this tour, he reported to the College of Naval Command and Staff at the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island from October 2009 to October 2010. After graduation, Lieutenant Colonel Sims returned to Camp Lejeune as the Executive Officer for 2d Battalion 10th Marines, where he served until July 2011. Then he joined Regimental Combat Team 6 and deployed with them in December 2011 until November 2012 to Helmand Province, Afghanistan. During this assignment, he served as the Afghan National Security Forces Director and Future Operations Officer. He served in combat operations in the Washir, Kajaki, and Musa Qala Districts. Upon return from deployment, he served as the 6th Marine Regiment Operations Officer until October 2013. In November 2013, Lieutenant Colonel Sims was assigned to Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group in Ft Story, Virginia. From then until May 2015, he served as the European Command Coordination, Liaison, Advise and Training Team Officer in Charge. During this tour, he led security cooperation focused training for the Georgian Deployment Program and Black Sea Rotational Force as well as serving as the operations officer for multiple Republic of Georgia Mission Rehearsal Exercises. Lieutenant Colonel Sims holds a Master of Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. His personal awards include Bronze Star (w/ V, 3d Award), Purple Heart, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2d Award), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon (2d Award).

Lineage 1951-1964 Activated 1 March 1951 at Camp Catlin, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as 1st ANGLICO. Elements of 1st ANGLICO deployed to Korea for combat operations. Relocated during September 1951 to Marine Corps supply deport, Oahu, Hawaii. Relocated in October 1955 to Camp H. M. Smith, Oahu, territory of Hawaii. 1965-1974 Sub Unit #1, 1st ANGLICO activated 19 May 1965. Sub Unit #1 deployed during May 1965 to the Republic of Vietnam and assigned to Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. Sub unit #1 participated in the war in Vietnam, May 1965 through March 1973. 1st ANGLICO relocated during May 1971 to San Diego, California. Re-designated 6 July 1972 as separate brigade platoon, 1st ANGLICO. 1975-1985 Relocated in January 1975 to Camp Pendleton, California. Assigned January 1979 to the 1st Marine Division. Re-designated 30 May 1980 as separate brigade platoon, 2nd ANGLICO. Reassigned during January 1984 to the 1 Marine Amphibious Force. Re-designated 5 December 1985 as 1986-2002 Reassigned during September 1989 to 1st SRIG. Participated in OPERATIONS DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM, 1990-1991. Elements patriated in OPERATION RESTORE HOPE, Somalia, 1992-1993. Re-designated 14 May 1999 as Marine Liaison Element, I MHG, I MEF. Deployed in 2002 to Kuwait in Support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 2003-2008 Participated in OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, Iraq, March 20013-June 2003 Re-designated 19 September 2003 as 1 st ANGLICO, I MHG, I MEF.
