DECISION TIME
OPTION ONE - MONKEY BLOCK A progressive party between 5 venue spaces in the heart of SODO centered around the Monkey Loft
Club Sur 600-700 max capacity Open from 2pm 2am MONKEY BLOCK Monkey Loft 400 capacity indoor + 175 deck Open from 2pm 8am Within SoDo 400 capacity Open from 1am 8am Day and Night Daytime Nighttime Metropolist 600 capacity in + 100 patio Open from 1am 8am Westland Distillery Gallery space, not for sound 300 capacity Open from 2pm 12am
MONKEY BLOCK THE CATCH(ES) Only possible date is 23 September - Date conflicts with Deep Playa Equinox Campout (a rad event we d like to attend) - Several of our DPW family will still be on playa doing cleanup/restoration Tickets will be around $30 just to break even - Venues keep all bar proceeds except possible segregated beer garden outside With the amount of institutional and financial resources necessary to make this event happen, the clubhouse purchase (option 2) will not be possible
OPTION TWO A NEW HOME VISION: provide the Seattle Burner community a permanent clubhouse and makers space that can accommodate large scale art builds, meeting rooms, office space, storage, and events such as seacomp, camp fundraisers, etc. The old Burien Firehouse presents a rare opportunity for a space uniquely suited to all of these purposes.
Workshop Lounge Area Sleeping Quarters Workshop / Loading Dock Open Bay 4 Truck Garage Patio Kitchen Locker Room / Showers Garage with Pit For Art Car Maintenance Entryway & Stairs
Large Office Office Large Office Office Office Storage Closet Office Attic Above Garage HVAC / Electric Attic Storage Landing above stairwell Large Conference Room Office Upper Level Floor Plan
Open Bay Garage Capacity 650 closed doors
Conference room Capacity 50
Art Car Maintenance Garage
Remember those incredible SeaComps in Burien? Unsurprisingly the space they were held has become condos. The Firehouse and adjacent lots would provide an even larger space, along with highly adaptable indoor spaces for your creation. Covered space Open air
OPTION TWO: FIREHOUSE Seacomp as launch party to welcome participants to our new Burner community center Minimal marginal cost for events Permitting and rental of parking lots Labor and costs of prepping the site would be long-term investments Many varied indoor spaces for adaptable art experiences Event in mid-october avoids conflicts with Deep Playa Equinox event and Playa Resto If every community member donated $25 during "Give Big where funds are matched, we would be able to finance the purchase
OPTION TWO THE CATCH(ES) CONVENIENCE: Burien v. Sodo - Can be mitigated with shuttle transportation, but still UNCERTAINTY: the purchase will be a long and difficult process with a lot that could go wrong. We have assurances and partners that make our plan viable, but no guarantees. It will require sustained community support to pull this off.
THE DECISION IS YOURS Your INW Board and Events Committee have worked very hard to make these two excellent options possible. Neither can happen without your help. We re asking for your vote, but it s not going to be as simple as clicking a button on surveymonkey. This is a do-ocracy. We need your support and your participation 1) Please donate to INW through Give Big your donation will be matched by the Seattle Foundation, and possibly again by your employer. Be sure to include a comment which option you support! MONKEY BLOCK or FIREHOUSE. If your choice does not prevail, your donation will go to support Art Grants for SeaCompression rather than venue costs. 2) If you are not able to donate, get in our faces and tell us what you will do to support your preferred SeaCompression join the events committee, volunteer on production, talk to us!
REMEMBER EMPLOYER MATCHING FUNDS! Many employers also match your donation YOUR GIFT COULD HAVE 3X THE IMPACT Please remember it is not enough to select your employer from this list it is only for Seattle Foundation statistical use PROVIDE YOUR GIFT RECEIPT TO YOUR HR DEPARTMENT
