Green Acres Standale The Standale Social The desire of Retirement Living is to honor God by providing the elderly with a lifestyle that values their identity, their independence, and their dignity. March 2017 "It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!" - Mark Twain You know Spring is here when Fat Tuesday is just around the corner! Tuesday February 28th. Also known as Paczki Day...those decadent little Polish pastries you say you will stay away from but can't. Did you know that on Fat Tuesday 100's of thousands of Paczkis are made? For those of you counting calories, you should know these pastries pack a healthy 400-500 calories, and 25 grams of fat! I don't know about all of you, but I don't care, they are worth every calorie and fat gram! A little Paczki history for all of you: Paczki's have their roots in Catholicism. They were created to use up excess sugar, eggs, butter, and lard before the 40 day fast, known as lent. Paczki's also date back to the middle ages and were filled with pork fat and fried in lard. Traditional Paczki filling is made with prunes. I hope all of you will enjoy a Paczki on Fat Tuesday, and have a blessed Easter season. Joni Tate, LPN, CHPLN, Administrator Meet Our New Kitchen Manager Shari Jackson Hello! I am married and have 2 beautiful daughters. My oldest will be making me a first time grandmother in June!! I have had 2 life changing adventures in the mission field working with orphanages in both Bosnia and the Ukraine. People call me an adrenaline junky at times! I love roller coasters, have been sky diving and own a Harley Davidson Sportster which I spend most of my time on...weather permitting. I have worked all but 1 year of my 31 years of employment in the food service industry. I made the move from a larger community to Green Acres because I missed the family feel of things. I feel blessed and honored to be a part of the team here. Excited to serve your loved ones!!
