This research examines mediated communication (text and voice messaging) as a means of maintaining social support networks and how those who are in these networks change over an academic tenure for one hundred incoming freshmen. This population has been chosen for several reasons that include: being 18 to 19 years of age, moving away from home for the first time, leaving a well established social support network (i.e., family, friends, teachers, etc.).
