New Business 5 Year Look Ahead Sustainment and Operation Support Sustainment of EW systems growing from the current baseline funding SRP/Smart Sustainment targets increasing Operations support declining in line with operations tempo DCP Major EW Capital Projects Currently based on 09-19 Defence Capability Plan (DCP) Capability Development Group is the lead pre 2 nd Pass Project Development coordinates new projects in EW Branch - Dave Blacklock Majority of EW projects are not in the Public DCP CDG have provided briefs on EW projects through ADIESA Recent agreed DMO to lead Industry engagement on procurement activity
New Business 5 Year Look Ahead DCP Proposed EW Capital Projects: +30 proposed EW projects Program budget is +$1500m Estimated Australian Industry Content is 38%
Future Business Opportunities Convergence of Technology Joint Strike Fighter Navy Common Topside Common Architecture From provision of just space and EW hotel services to Common EW Interfaces Focus on the glue, connecting sensors Networking: real time machine to machine EW Software, applications and tools
Future EW Business Challenges Remote EW Operation Unmanned platforms and/or partially manned platforms Understand EW remote operation challenges Electronic Attack (EA) Renewed interest EW and major new platforms Littoral Environment e.g. Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) New Aircraft capability or replacement - e.g. Wedgetail/P8 Potential Super Hornet Electronic Attack modification - Growler
Future EW Business Challenges Force Structure Review 2013 (FSR13) Increased workload against DMO manning constraints Global Defence Industry Slowdown Key Defence partners under acquisition constraints Currently most partner EW programs remain Workforce Acknowledge EW skills shortages DMO and Industry
Cyber Threats Cyber Threats Defence/DMO is cognisant of the threat - work underway System Security Engineering (SSE) Front end network apertures Backend software
Wrap-up Focus remains on support to Operations EW in growth phase - significant new EW business has commenced Future opportunities: networking of EW sensors convergence of technology in major platforms renewal of interest in Electronic Attack remote operation of EW systems Challenge of EW skilled staff in DMO and Industry
