Komoro City,Nagano Prefecture,Japan 1. About Komoro City Komoro is a historic city with an old castle and surrounded by rich nature. It is located on the highland along a south foot of majestic Mt. Asama in eastern Nagano prefecture with the Chikuma River, an A class river, running through the city. (The location of the City Hall is at altitude 679m above sea level.) The city was municipalized as Komoro City in 1954 by merging one town and five villages. As explained by a motto; Making Komoro a community with a harmony of peoples smile and the nature, the administration and residents have been working in collaboration to make Komoro a vital community where each one of people can enjoy the feeling of happiness. 2. Development of achieving a Safe Community Designation December /2009 Visited the Minowa Town, a community working for SC designation in Nagano Prefecture, to study their Safe Community activities Started the research aiming at becoming a member of WHO International Network of Safe Communities Participated in Safe Community Study Workshop by people of Minowa Town January /2010 Visited to Atsugi City, a community working for SC designation in Kanagawa Prefecture, to study their Safe Community activities Visited to Kameoka City, the first SC designated community in Japan, in Kyoto Prefecture to study their Safe Community activities February /2010 Participated in Safe Community Workshop in Sakae Ward, Yokohama City in Kanagawa Prefecture Participated in Safe Community Workshop in Minowa Town
