Cortes Avenue, Looc, Mandaue City, Cebu ABOUT THE CONFERENCE: The Philippine Criminal Justice Researchers Society Inc. (PCJRS), in collaboration with Philippine Sociological Society (PSS) and Cavite State University (CvSU)) will hold the 4 th National Research Conference with the theme Dimensions of Crime and Justice: An Interdisciplinary Conference on Social Deviance on June 27-29, 2017 at University of Cebu Lapulapu & Mandaue, A.C. Cortes Avenue, Looc, Manadaue City, Cebu. The activity is spearheaded by the Cavite State University's College of Criminal Justice (CCJ) and the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System and Continuing Education and Training Services (CETS). Quantitative and qualitative papers and posters on the five pillars of justice will be presented: Track 1 - Law Enforcement Track 2 - Prosecution Track 3- Courts Track 4- Corrections Track 5 Community Special session: Gender, Crime, Social Deviance and the Criminal Justice System
PARTICIPANTS: Academics, post-graduate researchers, practitioners and policy makers in the fields of gender a wareness and development, psychology, sociology, security, criminology and criminal justice are invited to attend and present papers or posters on their research/experiences adhering to the theme of the conference. Researchers/practitioners from other allied disciplines that interrelate with the comprehensive criminal justice system are also welcome to participate. The conference aims to provide a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of research. It also opens the venue for social researchers to present studies that critically analyze how crime, justice and punishment intersect, reflect and engage the changing conditions of the country s social and political landscape. TENTATIVE PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES: The duration of the Conference is three (3) days and it excludes the travel time to and from the venue. Below is the tentative schedule of activities: June 27, Tuesday (Day 1) Registration, Opening Program, Presentation of Papers June 28, Wednesday (Day 2) Presentation of Papers/Posters, Fellowship Night, Awarding and Closing Ceremonies June 29, Thursday (Day 3) Cultural Tour CALL FOR PAPERS AND POSTERS: The PAPER should include an abstract, rationale, objectives, methodology, discussion/interpretation, conclusions, policy implications, and recommendations; and should adhere to the following format/guidelines: 1. Paper should have a Title Page (Title, Author/s and their Designation and Agency, Address and Contact Numbers) 2. Title should all be in capital letters. In case the title exceeds one (1) line, it should be in an inverted pyramid form. 3. The underlined full name (s) of the author (s) starting from the first/given name 4. An asterisk must be placed after the name of the author who will present the paper. 5. In cases where the paper has many authors coming from one or different institutions, superscript numbers should be used to indicate the author s corresponding position, institution if applicable, and address. 6. The use of abbreviation is not accepted. Acronyms should be spelled out the first time they are used. If several acronyms are used, they could be listed with their meanings at the end of the abstract. 7. All abstracts must be submitted by March 1, 2017 for screening and approval for presentation during the conference. The abstract should not exceed one and one-half pages. Several keywords should be provided at the end of the abstract. 8. Biographical Statement: All proposals for presentations must include a brief biographical statement (12 lines or less). Please do not send lengthy resumes. 9. Multiple Submissions: Multiple submissions by the same author or co-author are allowed, depending on the topics and space/time availability. The Program Committee reserves the right to limit multiple submissions. 2 P age
10. Please note that only original papers or materials that have not been published or presented elsewhere may be submitted. 11. Recent papers are more desirable. However, all papers written in the past five (5) years can be presented at the conference. 12. Official communication will be sent to author(s) of the papers which have been approved for presentation and competition. 13. Once approved, e-copy of the full-length paper should be submitted to the Secretariat on or before May 15, 2017. Full paper must follow the IMRAD format of a journal article and should be double-spaced with a font of 12 in Times New Roman. Major Criteria for Evaluation of Paper: 1. Relevance/significance Implications/relevance to the five pillars of justice (planning, implementation, evaluation) Potential contribution to the five pillars of justice (e.g. social, economic, ecological) 2. Organization (content) Comprehensiveness Overall quality (validity/reliability and dependability of results/content) 3. Oral Presentation Presentation (over-all impact on the audience, understandability, concise reporting within given time-frame) Format presentation (clear description of the research; follows given format) Researchers salesmanship (knowledge on the project, communication skills) The POSTER should clearly depict rationale/significance, objectives, methodology, discussion/ interpretation, conclusions, policy implications, and recommendations; and should adhere to the following format/guidelines: 1. 2. The poster should both be attractive and self-explanatory - presenting organized and concise key ideas, conclusions and recommendations. 3. Size of the poster is 40 x 30 (in portrait format) with labels not exceeding 600 words. 4. The design should flow sequentially from one part to the next (left to right or top to bottom). Number or arrows may be used to help the eye move from item to item in the correct order. Avoid cluttering with text or artwork. 5. Poster text should be presented in no more than three colors. Dark typed on light background is easiest to read. 6. Photographs/illustrations should be 5 X 7. Captions and labels should be readable from two meters away and not cluttered with unnecessary details. Graphs are preferable to tables. Use only one vertical scale per graph. 7. The poster must be set-up/displayed in the designated area a day before the conference proper and must remain on display until the Awarding Ceremonies. Major Criteria for Evaluation of Poster: 1. Message delivery (understandability, use of simple/layman s language, public appeal, overall impact on the reader) 2. Color, design, and style (creativity, attractiveness) 3. Proponent s salesmanship (product knowledge, communication skill) 4. Encourages multi-sectoral collaboration 5. Serves as catalyst for other investigations Winners for Best Paper Award and Best Poster Award will receive a certificate and cash prize. NO-SHOWS The program committee has noted a growing number of "no-shows" among panel participants. It is disrespectful toward fellow panelists and audiences, and unfair to those applicants who were not selected for inclusion on the program. Participants who fail to notify the PCJRS secretariat in advance that they will not be able to attend the conference and participate in their panel session will not be allowed to submit a proposal for the following year's conference. CONFERENCE FEES The registration fee is P4,000 inclusive of the following: Conference kit and souvenir Two sets of breakfast (June 28-29) Four sets of snacks (June 27-28) Three sets of lunch (June 27-29) Two sets of dinner (June 27-28) Accommodation is not included in the registration fee.
