Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine: 2 Nos each (75 sq.mt. each), A-V Aids (OHP, Slide Projector, Television, Video ) in every hall, Desks with capacity of 60-75 students per hall are provided. However, the provision has been made to increase by another one demonstration hall for all these five departments in a phased manner once the existing library is shifted to the new library complex. d. Laboratories 6 Nos Main Laboratories. 1. Department of Biochemistry 1 no. (300 sq.m.) 2. Department of Microbiology 1 no. (300 sq.m.) 3. Department of Pathology 1 no. (300 sq.m.) 4. Department of Community Medicine 1 no. (300 sq.m.) 5. Department of Pharmacology 2 nos. (300 sq.m. and 200 sq.m.) In the department of pharmacology wherein one of the laboratory is 200 sq.m. area and the provision has been made to upgrade to 300 sq.m. area once the existing library is shifted to the new library complex. All the laboratories are provided with continuous working tables, seat with stainless steel washbasin and every working table with one drawer or steam proof top and individual lighting with preparation room (14 Sq.m. area). 2 Nos. Minor Laboratories: 1. Department of Physiology 120 sq m. 2. Department of Anatomy 120 sq.m. All of these laboratories are used in common with various departments e.g. Histology and Histopathology; Biochemistry and Clinical Pharmacology; Heamatology and Pathology; Microbiology and Community Medicine e. Library Air-conditioned Central Library with 2060 sq.m. area provided for 350 students with good lighting and ventilation. There is enough space for stocking and display of books and journals There are all together 20711 Text and reference books. There are all together 156 journals out of 105 are Indian and 51 are Foreign journals. There is a space for staff members and for post-graduate students separately. Room for Librarian and other staff are provided Journal room is provided Air-conditioned Computer room with Medlar and Internet facility is provided for 40 nodes. However, all the facilities required as per MCI regulations would be provided once the new library complex is created. The construction is expected to complete by December 2013. 2
f. Skill Lab g. Auditorium The skill lab is established in the first floor of R.L.Jalappa Hospital and Research Centre adjacent to the blood bank. The manikins to conduct the workshop/ courses for Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support are procured. The courses are conducted for all the undergraduate. postgraduate students and the para-medical staff. For the advance learning our students are posted to the higher centres at Bangalore. The open air auditorium having 2500 sq.m. area accommodates more than 2000 people at any given time. The 500 sq.m. Lecture hall has all the provisions to convert into an auditorium and has all the audio-visual aids. However, the silver jubilee auditorium which can accommodate 1200 people with 1600 sq.m. area is being built and would be ready by December 2013. II. Hospital R.L.Jalappa hospital and Research Centre and S.N.R. Hospital (Government District Hospital) are the two teaching hospitals of Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College. R.L.Jalappa hospital and Research Centre has 1032 beds out of which 785 beds are the teaching beds and 187 beds are emergency (ICU, Casualty, MICU, NICU, PICU, Burns, Pre-operative, Post-operative and etc.) and 60 beds are belonging to super-speciality. SNR hospital (Government District Hospital) has 210 teaching beds for our medical college. R.L.Jalappa hospital and Research Centre is provided with lift for the patients and ramp for fire protective services and handicapped persons. It is also provided with 750 KVA generator to ensure uninterrupted power supply is under the academic administrative and disciplinary control of the Principal. The accommodation for the Out-patient services, in-patient services, administrative officers, central record section and etc., which are required for the hospital are provided. The details of the allocation of beds for the various units of the departments at R.L.Jalappa hospital and Research Centre and S.N.R. Hospital (Government District Hospital) are enclosed. They are all as per the MCI requirements of 200 undergraduate admissions. The R.L.Jalappa hospital and Research Centre has central laboratory, operation theatre complex (12 nos.), central sterilization and storage, laundry, casualty services, pharmacy and radiology department with imaging facilities (for both general and special x-rays), CT scan, MRI scan, ultrasound sonography and mammography. The hospital has outsourced for the waste management. 3
