ABOUT THE RESIDENCIES The Canberra Glassworks Thomas Foundation residencies are an initiative of David and Barbara Thomas to work with Canberra Glassworks to support emerging and mid-career Australian glass artists. The Thomas Foundation residencies are funded on a cost-sharing basis; the residency will provide up to $2000 per artist towards equipment hire or similar, with this amount being matched by the recipient. This residency supports emerging and established artists to access Canberra Glassworks to help them progress their careers by providing artists with a place and time for research and development, creating a new body of work, developing a particular idea or continuing along a theme. Artists must be familiar and highly skilled with the equipment that they are proposing to use. Residents will be provided with a designated work space and interstate artists will have share accommodation available to them with a small cleaning/ administration fee required, in The Chapel at Canberra Glassworks. The Thomas Foundation funds and artists own contribution will go towards the hiring of equipment and facilities, but could also be applied to educational programs offered at Canberra Glassworks. TFAiRs will be expected to participate in the residency on a full-time basis. Artists in residence make a significant contribution to the cultural life of the centre. It is part of the TFAiR role to engage with other artists in the centre and the public. TFAiRs may also be required to give a public talk/demonstration. TFAiR residency applications are called for twice each year. Only one CGW residency will be awarded to a single artist per year. AMOUNT YOU MAY APPLY FOR Up to $2000 may be applied for. The artist is required to match the amount requested.
