Dear Prospective Volunteer: Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Make-A-Wish Mississippi chapter! We rely on the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers to accomplish our mission of granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. People like you can service as wish granters, fundraisers, special event assistants and in numerous other capacities. In order to provide the wish children and their families with the best experience possible, we require all potential volunteers to go through an approval process before becoming an active Make-A-Wish volunteer. Please note that all volunteers must be 18 years or older. We also need to know if you are going to be paying for it or if you choose that Make-A- Wish Mississippi picks up the cost. Once this is done, you will be emailed a link to proceed. Step 3: AFTER you have received approval confirmation from our office, you will need to take the On-line course through Make-A-Wish University. See the 6 th page for the beginning of the instructions for taking this course so please keep this information for future use. As a member of a wish team, you will meet with the family, determine the wish and act as a liaison between the Mississippi chapter staff and the wish family during the wish process. Wish Granter Volunteers are also encouraged to volunteer/help with at least one fundraising event per year. Attendance at a three-hour training session is required with an on-line course through the National office. Fundraising Volunteer Plan, organize, and implement successful fundraising events by working on event committees, helping out on the event day, and/or participating in the event. Other fundraising opportunities within your personal or professional network may include: Organize a Frequent Flyer Mile Campaign Sell paper Make-A-Wish star icons Promote Workplace Giving Serve as an Event Chair or on an Event Planning Committee Kids For Wish Kids or Wishmakers on Campus Coordinator These programs offer students of all ages and school staff members the exciting opportunity to assist in granting the wishes of children in their own community. Schools/groups have sold magnetic or paper stars, bracelets, coordinated walks, hosted talent shows, teacher-student basketball games it s all up to the student s imagination!
Volunteer Application, continued (pg 3 of 3) Volunteer Guidelines The following guidelines apply to those interested in being a volunteer with Make-A-Wish. ALL volunteers with Make-A-Wish must be registered. ALL volunteers are to perform a criminal background check through pre-employ, as instructed by Make-A-Wish Mississippi, and any infraction may be grounds to discontinue the volunteer process. Make-A-Wish National policies state that we must update background checks every three (3) years. ALL volunteers must read and sign a Conflict Of Interest and Ethics Assurance Statement at the time of completing the application. Make-A-Wish National policies state that we must update this form on a yearly basis. ALL Wish Granter Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. ALL volunteers must agree to maintain the confidentiality of all information gathered through their association with Make-A-Wish. ALL Wish Granter Volunteers must participate in a volunteer training and agree to work As part of a Wish Granting Team. ALL volunteer positions are filled on an as-needed basis. ALL volunteers must abide by the policies of Make-A-Wish Mississippi and Make-A- Wish America. ALL volunteers have a shared responsibility with the staff to use Foundation resources wisely, to assist the raising of funds through in-kind donations and external events, and to develop Foundation relationships. ANY volunteers leaving the organization will be given an opportunity for an exit interview at their request. The Regional Staff, in consultation with the Manager of Volunteer Programs, may remove a volunteer from active status at any time. Conflict of Interest and Ethics Assurance Statement As a volunteer of Make-A-Wish (the "Foundation"), I have an obligation to the Foundation and the constituencies it serves to comply with the highest standards of ethical conduct, including those set forth in the Foundation s Statement of Values, Code of Ethics and Conflict of Interest Policy. I will not commit acts contrary to those standards, and I will promptly report to appropriate Foundation representatives either directly, or through MySafeWorkplace (a 24-hour confidential whistle-blower hotline that can be accessed at www.mysafeworkplace.com or by calling 1-800-461-9330) the commission of any such acts by others within the Foundation. I understand that my responsibilities include the following: Ethics and Legal Assurance I will at all times: (a) perform my duties in accordance with relevant laws, regulations and Foundation policies and standards; (b) promote the attainment of the Foundation's legitimate and ethical objectives; and (c) represent the interests of all constituencies served by the Foundation and not favor special interests inside or outside the Foundation in connection with Foundation business. I will refrain from: (a) violating any criminal or civil law or regulation, the violation of which may reflect poorly on the Foundation; and/or (b) engaging in or supporting any activity that would discredit the Foundation. Registering for the LMS To access your ecourses, you ll first need to register. Once registered, you can go to http://training.mawu.wish.org at any time to access your courses and transcript. Registration Procedures: 1. Navigate to http://training.mawu.wish.org/admin/secure/register.asp. 2. Complete the New Registration Screen. 1. Enter your first and last name. 2. Select the Access Code drop down. Select your chapter s number (MS 036) and volunteer. 3. Enter your email. 4. Create and enter a username. 5. Create and enter a password. 6. Click Submit. You will automatically be logged into your MAWU account once submitted. Helpful Tips: Only use Internet Explorer when taking courses on the LMS. Any Questions? Using Make-A-Wish University 1. To access your ecourses, click on the Online Training tab. 2. Search for your courses by selecting Volunteer Learning & Development Resources, in the Category section. 3. Once you click on Volunteer Learning & Development Resources, all available courses for volunteers will appear. Once you are ready to begin a course, click begin training. 5. Be sure to complete the quiz and the survey at the end of the training to ensure your score records. Once completed, it will show up in your transcript under My Portfolio.
