STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS STUDENT LOANS: Check Websites For Current Updates https://studentaidbc.ca/ Once you have a plan in place for your education, you can start applying to post-secondary institutions. The process of applying differs depending on whether the institutions you are applying to are public or private, and where they are located. If you are planning to take out student loans, ensure that school is designated for that purpose. A basic principle of the program is that the main responsibility for the cost of post-secondary education rests with the student and immediate family (their parents, step-parents, sponsor, legal guardian, or spouse). If you are a B.C. Resident when you apply for student financial assistance in B.C., you automatically apply on the same application for both CANADA STUDENT LOAN and BRITISH COLUMBIA STUDENT LOAN.

B.C. GOVERNMENT GRANTS When you apply for student aid, you will automatically be considered for a non-repayable B.C. Government Grant for years two, three and four if: you are in your first 136 weeks of post-secondary study, and you are studying at a designated B.C. public or private post-secondary school. B.C. Government Grants are no longer available to first year students, but government student loans are available to first year students. The Student Services Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education will review the costs and income on your application form to determine how much assistance you are eligible to receive. There is a limit to the amount of assistance you may receive each year. Application packages are available online @ www.studentaidbc.ca Financial Aid Offices at all B.C. public post-secondary schools are available to assist you with the application. Apply early it may take up to six weeks to process your application.?? QUESTIONS?? Ask a counsellor or administrator.
