Junior Katharine Ross went 58.63 in the 100 breast to break her own Tiger record and notch an A cut. Additionally, sophomore Kira Zubar broke Mizzou s 500 and 1650 school records with personal best swims of 4:42.52 in the 500 and 16:18.64 in the 1650. South Carolina: The South Carolina men and women returned to the pool with a dual meet against Duke on Friday, Jan. 8. The men fell to the 22nd-ranked Blue Devils, 154-146, while the women fell, 187-113. Despite the setbacks, the Gamecocks had plenty of positives from the meet. The Carolina men had nine event victories, while the women s squad posted nine. Nils Wich-Glasen led Carolina with three wins, capturing both breaststroke events and the 200 IM. Jordan Gotro won both men s diving events, while Cody Bekemeyer (100 free), Kevin Leithold (200 free), Fynn Mintuh (200 fly) and Akaram Mahmoud (500 free) each won a single event. For the women s Julia Vincent was victorious in both diving events, while Kersten Dirrane took the victory in both the 200 breast and the 200 IM, her first wins of the season. Freshman Emma Barksdale had perhaps the most impressive swim of the night, winning the 100 free in a time of 9:51.14. The time was just one second slower than a 25- year old Carolina program record, and it also ranks as the ninth-fastest time in collegiate swimming this season. The Gamecock women return to the pool Saturday for a dual meet with Vanderbilt, while both teams are back in action for a quad meet with Queens, Wingate and UNC Wilmington to be held Jan. 22-23 at the Carolina Natatorium. Tennessee: The Tennessee Volunteers returned to competition in 2016, starting with the Georgia Diving Invitational and the Alabama dual meet. Senior Mauricio Robles picked up where he left off in the fall, winning both springboard competitions at UGA and placing third on platform. Freshman Rachel Rubadue won the platform title and both divers scores gave UT wins on both springboards in the Alabama dual meet. Senior Harper Bruens starred for Tennessee in the Vols return to the pool. She won four individual swimming events (50m free, 100m free, 50m fly, 100m fly) and was part of two winning relays. The Vols race again Jan. 23 in a dual meet at Georgia. Texas A&M: The Texas A&M men s swimming and diving team suffered its first loss of the season with a 178-122 outcome against the No. 3-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Friday Team Notes 5 at the Student Recreation Natatorium. The Aggies fell to 5-1 in dual meet action in 2015-16. The Aggies return to action in two weeks when they head to Baton Rouge, La., for a dual meet against LSU On Jan. 23. The Aggies won four events on the day with freshman diver Sam Thornton leading the way with a pair of wins. Thornton, from Baildon, United Kingdom, swept the one- and three-meter dives with scores of 387.30 in the one-meter and 415.81 in the three-meter. Also tallying individual victories were sophomores Mauro Castillo and Brock Bonetti. Castillo was victorious in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:58.72, while Bonetti touched first in the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:45.02. The Texas A&M women s swimming and diving team posted a clean sweep of all 16 events in today s 159.5-114.5 victory over SMU on Senior Day at the Student Recreation Natatorium. Leading the way for the Aggies with two individual victories against the Mustangs were junior Madison Hudkins, sophomore Beryl Gastaldello and sophomore Jorie Caneta. Hudkins posted a diving sweep for the second straight day with victories in the one-meter dive (318.52) and three-meter dive (career-best 370.20). Hudkins three-meter score made her the No. 2 performer in the dive in school history. Gastaldello tallied victories in the 100 free (50.00) and the 100 butterfly (53.55) and also swam legs on both winning relays. Caneta swept the 100 breaststroke (1:01.71) and the 200 breast (2:15.65). Vanderbilt: The Vanderbilt swim team began its second half of the season on the right note, as the team placed first in every race en route to defeat the Little Rock Trojans; 211-68. The Commodores are now 5-0 in the pool against Little Rock, with wins coming in consecutive seasons. On top of taking first in every race, VU generated five podium sweeps, the most generated in one meet this season. The Dores clinched first, second and third in the 50 back, 100 fly, 100 breast, 50 fly and the 100 IM. VU s fly group continued to excel, as both events were swept, with sophomore record holder Breanna Sapienza taking first in each event. Johanna Goldblatt secured her second collegiate first-place victory, taking the top spot in the 50 back at a time of 28.00. One event later, sophomore Kara Lucenti earned first in the 50 breast, coming in at 31.22. Summer Brown, Madeline Hunt, Kayla Moran, Goldblatt, Lucenti and Sapienza all earned two first-place finishes in individual events, and helped Vanderbilt earn relay victories either in the 100 medley relay (Goldblatt, Coughlin, Sapienza, Moran) at 49.21 or the 100 freestyle relay (Sapienza, Goldblatt, Hunt, Brown) coming in at 44.63. The Commodores next meet will be on Jan. 16th at home against South Carolina.
