Course Information Course Overview The Center for Bone Health at The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia is presenting Topics in Bone Health: Stronger Bones for Growing Kids on Friday, May 13, 2016. This conference is intended for primary care providers, nurse practitioners, family medicine physicians and internists, dietitians and other healthcare providers. The program aims to provide a necessary understanding of the impact of chronic illnesses on bone health and familiarize these providers with therapeutic options including nutritional interventions, physical therapy and pharmacological protocols. The learning format will be didactic lectures with question-and-answer sessions. General Information The conference will be held in the Ruth and Tristram Colket, Jr. Translational Research Building on Friday, May 13, 2016. The registration fee includes continental breakfast, refreshments, lunch, parking and course materials. Course Objectives Upon completion of this CME activity, participants should be able to: Review the principles of screening, treatment and monitoring of vitamin D deficiency Discuss the role of calcium and phosphorus in normal bone growth and development Discuss the important role of other vitamins and minerals beyond vitamin D and calcium, such as vitamin K, in normal bone growth and development Identify features of a concerning fracture history and describe the evaluation of children who are suspected victims of child maltreatment Identify the effects of chronic glucocorticoid therapies on bone mass in children and review potential management strategies to optimize bone health Discuss risk factors for osteopenia and poor bone quality in neuromuscular disease Identify common overuse injuries in adolescents and why the adolescent skeletal system is more susceptible to repetitive stress Discuss emerging medical therapies for pediatric bone disease, including bisphosphonate therapy Define athletic energy deficit and identify assessment tools that may be helpful when treating athletes who struggle with athletic energy deficit Review how sex hormones impact bone health in chronic medical conditions, such as anorexia ACCME Accreditation Statement The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AMA Credit Designation Statement The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Continuing Nursing Education Approved Provider Statement The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Dietitian Accreditation Statement This activity has been submitted to the Commission on Dietetic Registration for 6.5 hours of continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for registered dietitians. Registration Attendees can register by mail, fax or online. Preregistration is required. The registration deadline is Friday, April 29, 2016. Once registration has been processed a confirmation letter will be mailed or faxed. Please Note: Registration is not complete if you do not receive this confirmation. If you do not receive a confirmation within 15 days of registration, please contact the CME Department at 215-590 5263. Cancellation and Refund Policy The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia reserves the right to cancel or postpone any conference due to any unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia will refund registration fees but is not responsible for any related costs, charges or expenses to participants, including cancellations/charges assessed by hotels or airlines/travel agencies. In order to process refunds, cancellations must be received in writing by Monday, May 2, 2016. Refunds will be issued for the amount of registration minus a $40 administrative fee.
