This program provides scholarships to Latino men and women with significant financial need residing in the New York metropolitan area that have been accepted or are enrolled in a full time Master s level program at one of the following accredited schools of social work: To apply: Adelphi University School of Social Work Columbia University School of Social Work Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work Lehman College Department of Social Work New York University Silver School of Social Work Touro College Graduate School of Social Work Yeshiva University Wurzweiler School of Social Work Students must obtain a copy of the application from their school or from www.latinosocialwork.org and submit the application by mail or delivery to their school financial aid office no later than Monday, May 1 st, 2017. They must have a GPA of 3.0 or better and have been accepted for the 2017-2018 school year. The School/University will send the top 5 student applications and their Financial Assessment Form for each student to the LSWC and Scholarship Fund for the selection process. No applications will be accepted if mailed by students to the LSWC and Scholarship Fund. The applications and requested information can only be mailed by the School directly to the LSWC. THE LATINO SOCIAL WORK COALITION AND SCHOLARSHIP FUND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM February 15, 2017 Dear Student: We are pleased to announce our annual Latino Social Work Coalition Scholarship Program for 2017-2018. This program provides scholarships to Latino men and women with significant financial need residing in the New York metropolitan area that have been accepted or are enrolled in a Master s level program at one of the following accredited schools of social work: Adelphi University School of Social Work Columbia University School of Social Work Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work Lehman College Department of Social Work New York University Silver School of Social Work Touro Graduate School of Social Work Yeshiva University Wurzweiler School of Social Work The Latino Social Work Coalition and Scholarship Fund (LSWC) based on its past collaboration with the various graduate schools of social work has worked on the development of this scholarship program to increase the number of Latino social workers needed to better serve the increased demand for linguistically and culturally sensitive services to the Latino community. In accordance with the attached guidelines, both Latino men and women can apply for scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $2,500 based on LSWC availability of funds (with a commitment of $2,500 from each school for full time and $1,500 for part time). The Latino Social Work Coalition and Scholarship Fund is very interested in reviewing applications from Latino individuals who are committed to serving the Latino community as demonstrated through current/past work or volunteer experience and who will continue to work with the Latino community upon completion of their graduate studies. To apply you must meet the specified criteria and submit the attached application to one of the listed graduate schools where you are attending or have been accepted for admission in the 2017-2018 school year. Do not send your application to the LSWC. The school must receive your applications no later than Monday, May 1 st, 2017. THE LATINO SOCIAL WORK COALITION AND SCHOLARSHIP FUND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM GUIDELINES 1. The Latino Social Work Coalition and Scholarship Fund Scholarship Program provides scholarships to Latino men and women with significant economic need who are pursuing a Master s degree in social work. 2. All applicants must be residents of either New York City or the counties of Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester. Please note that returning students not originally residents of the New York Metropolitan Area who have registered to vote in the New York Metropolitan Area are deemed to be New York Metropolitan Area residents for purposes of applying for these scholarships. 3. Applicants must be accepted or currently enrolled in a full time or part time Master s level program at one of the following accredited graduate schools of social work: Adelphi University School of Social Work Columbia University School of Social Work Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work Lehman College Department of Social Work New York University Silver School of Social Work Touro Graduate School of Social Work Yeshiva University Wurzweiler School of Social Work 4. Each student selected for a Latino Social Work Council Scholarship Fund may receive from $1,500 to $2,500 depending on availability and pt/ft status and a $2,500 commitment from their school (for example, $2,000 from the LSWC and a commitment of $2,500 from the University for full time students). Students must be in good standing to receive subsequent scholarship awards as a continuing student. 5. Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident. 6. Applicants must have an overall undergraduate/graduate academic GPA of 3.0 or better. 7. Prior work and/or volunteer experience or internships/field placement in human services and working with communities of color is desirable but not required. 8. Applicants must be bilingual and bicultural in Spanish. 9. Applicants must demonstrate commitment to working with the Latino community upon completion of graduate studies and sign a letter of acknowledgment. 10. All scholarship decisions are final.
