City of Batesville 132 S. Steve was a lifelong resident of Batesville who began his career with the City in 1978 and served as the Water Department Manager. He was the longest serving employee until his passing in April 2017. What he did for the people of Batesville and surrounding places like Oldenburg are countless. He also had a major role in our plans to develop a future water source which will impact our city for generations, said Mayor Mike Bettice. But what many will remember him most for is the wonderful son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and friend that he was. He was an avid user of the city s walking trails and would often be seen bicycling to work and in the evening with his wife Tammi, his children, and his grandson, Bronson. "We are truly humbled and touched by the beautiful dedication. We will be forever grateful," said Tammi Wintz. A monument was funded by friends of Steve Wintz and a private dedication ceremony was held on Thursday, October 5. EDC Friday, Nov. 17 8 a.m. City Hall Closed Thurs., Nov 23-24 Water & Gas Thurs., Nov. 30 12 p.m. LARGE TRASH PICKUP IS SATURDAY, DEC. 2 Visit the City website for a list of acceptable/unacceptable items.

Police Beat The Batesville Police Department is currently accepting applications for full-time Police Officer. During the hiring process applicants will be required to complete various forms of background checks, physical fitness testing, written aptitude testing, an interview process, and other testing that may be deemed appropriate. Resumes will be accepted only if accompanied by an application. Deadline for all applications and resumes is Monday, November 20, 2017. Applications are online at http://www.batesvilleindiana.us/police_department and the police station, located at 132 S. Main Street in Batesville. The City of Batesville is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Get the newsletter by email! Visit BatesvilleIndiana.us RAA, Main Street seek national arts grant The Rural Alliance for the Arts partnered with Batesville Main Street to pursue the Our Town grant through the National Endowment for the Arts. The Our Town grant program supports creative placemaking projects that help to transform communities into lively, beautiful, and resilient places achieving these community goals through strategies that incorporate arts, culture, and/or design. The project known as, HeART & Sole of Downtown Batesville, is an effort to create public art, such as murals and sculptures, along with infrastructure upgrades around downtown. If awarded, the project will be funded by $100,000 in local pledges along with an additional $100K from the Our Town grant. Romweber gets $100K Grant The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) awarded $100K to Romweber Flats as part of the Historic Renovation Grant Program in October. The funding will go toward exterior renovations and repairs during the next phase of upgrades at the downtown landmark. The Sherman received a similar grant in 2016 during their renovation. This grant program is designed to incentivize downtown economic development and the preservation of historic structures. Join Mayor Mike Bettice for a Veterans Day Program on Friday, November 10 at 11AM at the South Street Park, located at the corner of South and Depot streets.

Wastewater project nears completion The Batesville Wastewater earthen basin liner project is almost complete! The purpose of this project is to ensure sewage has a proper holding area and can be treated during a major rain event. The 411 on Leaf Collection The Batesville Street Department operates a brand new automated leaf collection machine this fall which was purchased to increase worker safety and productivity. The previous machine required significant more labor and manpower, said Street Commissioner Tim Macyauski. We invested in this all-in-one driver-operated machine to make sure we can improve efficiency and eliminate the work hazards associated with the old machine. Annual curbside leaf collection takes place between October and December and typically it takes two to four weeks to make a complete circuit of the city. Tips for curbside pickup: Place leaves as close to the edge of the street as possible without placing leaves in the street. Be sure that leaves are free of any other debris. All loose leaves are picked up on street side only. No loose leaves are collected in alleyways. Please note that these services are only provided to residents within the City of Batesville. Collection schedules will only be interrupted in the event of severe weather. Small Business Saturday is a cause to celebrate our community with the small businesses that make Batesville special. Encourage others to support our unique local companies by purchasing them a gift certificate from the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce. Get more information by calling the Chamber at (812) 934-3101.

Day of Giving set for November 10 Ripley County Community Foundation will host their third annual Day of Giving on Friday, November 10. In honor of their 20 th anniversary, those who donate more than $20 will be entered to win a $2,000 grant for the organization of his or her choice. Donate online at http://rccfonline.org/ or stop by the RCCF office on November 10.
