Central Region Boy Scouts of America Wood Badge Guidelines In order to assist your council in conducting the 21 st Century Wood Badge in 2010-April 2011, please note the following guidelines: 1. Your course director and back-up course director should have only three beads and have earned his/her beads by participating in a 21 st Century Wood Badge course (former course directors may serve on a Wood Badge staff again if they have taken 21 st Century Wood Badge course). As of 2006, a course director and back-up course director must have served on the staff of a Wood Badge for the 21 st Century course as a troop guide as well as in at least one additional required staff position, at the time of appointment. 2. Staff recruitment should not begin before course director attends a Course Director s Conference. Both the council Scout Executive and the region must approve the potential staff list prior to any contact with possible faculty. 3. Councils are encouraged to send the professional staff adviser to the October conference. Course director and back-up course director are required to attend the conference. 4. The new 21 st Century Wood Badge must have 30 participants enrolled thirty days before the course begins. Maximum number of participants is 48 in the 21 st Century Wood Badge. 5. A limited number of Wood Badge staff manuals will be available for your 2010-April 2011 course. Staff Guides (The Syllabus) may be copied. Manuals are the property of the council. 6. Requests for Authorization to Conduct a Wood Badge Course are mailed to councils by May 1st. Signed applications are due in the Central Region office on or before June 30 th. Course numbers are assigned July 15 th, a letter is sent to the course director and a copy to the council. 7. Wood Badge is a National Training Course approved by the region to be conducted at the council level. There is a national fee of $400 per course that must be budgeted. There is no regional fee. 8. There are 17 course reports that are sent to five locations, ten of these are sent to the region office; see page 37 in the 2008 administration guide. Reports must be up to date on all previous courses to request a future Wood Badge course. vlh//f:/shared/program shared/woodbadge/woodbadge guidelines 4/17/20098:02 AM
