ABOUT THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA) The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15 engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform from which to share professional interest. IEI has membership strength of more than 0.8 million. Established in 1920, with its headquarters at 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata - 700020, IEI has served the engineering fraternity for over nine decades. In this period of time it has been inextricably linked with the history of modern-day engineering. In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains the only professional body in India to be accorded this honour. Today, its quest for professional excellence has given it a place of pride in almost every prestigious and relevant organization across the globe. IEI functions among professional engineers, academicians and research workers. It provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting services to the Government, Industries, Academia and the Engineering fraternity, operating from 120 Centres located across the country. The Institution has established R&D Centres at various locations in the country and also provides grant-in-aid to its members to conduct research and development on engineering subjects. IEI conducts Section A & B Examinations in different Engineering disciplines, the successful completion of which is recognized as equivalent to Degree in appropriate field of Engineering of recognized Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India. Every year as many as 90000 candidates appear for these exams. For details, please see: www.ieindia.org THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA), TELANGANA STATE CENTRE The Telangana State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) has on its rolls more than 7584 Corporate Members covering fifteen disciplines of Engineering besides non-corporate Members to the order of 19791. The Telangana State Centre has been one of the most active Centres of the Institution of Engineers (India) which is engaged in successfully translating the objectives and ideals of IEI into practice. The present Telangana State Centre is legacy of erstwhile State Centre of Nizam s State. SPHOORTHY ENGINEERING COLLEGE, HYDERABAD. Sphoorthy Engineering College, is a NAAC Accredited, Recognized by UGC and ISO 9001:2015 Certified College. 2

Sphoorthy Engineering College, the renowned name for quality education is established in 2004, and it is an excellent college to study engineering in The college is affiliated to JNTUH and it is approved by AICTE, New Delhi. The College takes the pride in turning thousands of students into sophisticated engineers. The high standards set by the College have paved way for their students to develop from the core level, and turn them into a competent workforce for the global corporate. Sphoorthy is considered as one of the top engineering colleges in as well as in Telangana State. Their special emphasis on the teaching quality and infrastructure has made them a leading Engineering College in They offer various courses in B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA and Diploma and provide special training to these students for achieving their professional goals. These trainings help the students to become competent engineers, which is an absolute requirement for the ever increasing demands of the industrial sectors. Sphoorthy Vision is to create a unique identity in the field of education in Engineering and technology driven by human values. THEME OF THE CONVENTION: Twenty First Century is witnessing a lot of technological developments. Internet of Things (IoT) is one such technological development. With reference to the Indian context, the IoT technologies are gaining importance due to ambitious programme of Smart Cities Development by Government of India. Internet of Things (IoT) devices are likely to be developed by using different technologies and standards. Such IoT devices are being deployed in large numbers in various domains; thus, collaboration between standards bodies to provide interoperability is a key to the success of IoT. Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology used to provide smarter services to users by connecting various devices connected to the Internet and allowing these devices to exchange information with each other. Many Internet of Things (IoT) platforms have been developed and deployed over the past decade. However, most platforms were implemented based on proprietary solutions or developed to solve specific domain problems. Therefore, there is a strong need to develop a standardized IoT platform to interconnect various proprietary platforms and provide common IoT services to users. To solve such interoperability issues, seven standard development organizations (SDOs) have initiated a global standards project, i.e., one M2M, creating scalable and interoperable IoT standards for communication of devices and services. The main aim of one M2M is to pursue a single horizontal service platform for exchanging and sharing 3

data among IoT applications that can be used in various industries providing smarter IoT services to users. In this context, it is the need of the hour to propose a National Convention of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers and a National Seminar on Recent Advances in IoT OBJECTIVE: The main objective of the Convention is to focus on various key IoT concepts including identification, sensors, localization, wireless protocols, data storage and security; helps in exploring IoT technologies, architectures, standards and regularization. It will also provide a platform for realizing the value created by collecting, communicating, coordinating and leveraging the data from connected devices and provides an opportunity to examine technological developments that will likely shape the industrial landscape in the future. PROGRAMME MODULE: The progamme of the National Seminar will consist of Inaugural Function, Six Technical Sessions, Panel Discussion and Valedictory Function. Prof. S K Mitra Memorial Lecture will be delivered by an eminent expert from the fields of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering and Computer Engineering. Experts from both industry and academia will deliver invited lectures on the following sub-themes of the National Seminar. Besides, a limited number of technical papers will be presented in the National Seminar. Sub-themes Smart Energy Management using IoT IoT Technologies in Agriculture and Rural Development IoT for Solving global problems such as Climate, Education and Poverty Security aspects for IoT based systems-challenges and Solutions IoT enabled Embedded Systems development IoT in air, space and defence applications IoT in transport, civilian & smart city applications. CALL FOR PAPERS: Technical Papers relevant to the theme of the Convention are invited from professionals in the above fields of engineerinng. Each Technical paper contributed by an author may not exceed 5000 words, with relevant tables and figures (each table / figure shall be equivalent to 500 words) in MS word only. 4
