Our Keynote Speaker: Barbara Cervenka, OP Adrian will present Fra Angelico, Preaching Through Art Barbara is an acclaimed watercolor ar st. Barbara has exhibited at the Detroit Ins tute of Art, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Dennos Museum in Traverse City, Central Michigan University and the Art Gallery of Winsor, and many other places here and abroad. Barbara has organized a group of Dominican ar sts to construct paper cranes to raise money for the Iraqi sisters Ebil ministries. She encouraged people to make origami cranes to send to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry urging him to increase humanitarian aid in Iraq. Barbara co founded Con/Vida, a non profit organiza on for promo ng understanding of the culture, history and tradi ons of people through their visual arts in Brazil and Peru. Barbara earned an MFA degree at U. of Michigan. For thirty years she taught there and at Siena Heights University in Adrian. As a member of the History Committee for the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, Barbara helped organize the traveling exhibit Women & Spirit: Catholic Sisters in America. h p://www.barbaracervenka.com 1

Studios and Workshops #1 Visit to Eco Jus ce Center (2 hours ) The Racine Dominican Eco Jus ne Center is dedicated to environmental educa on and care of Earth in a context of Community, Contempla on, Crea vity and Cul va on. Protec ng the land, as well as the plant and animal species that live on the 15 acres is vital to the Center. Organic gardening, raising araucana chickens, geese, ducks and caring for five alpacas are some ways they are living in a mutually enhancing rela onship with Earth and those who share the land with them. There is a gi shop with reasonably priced items. #4 Insights into Czech & Slovak Culture from Folksongs (1 hour) led by Anita Smisek The Czech people have always been recognized as especially musically gi ed. Music, o en called the language of the heart, is an integral part of every Czech s way of life: at home and work. In church and on fes ve occasions. Join Anita as she shares her insights with us. #2 Gourd Saints (2 plus hours) Led by Judy Smith OPA Par cipants will depict, by wood burning, a favorite Dominican Saint on a small gourd (3 6 high). Media available will be acrylic paints,ink dyes. Be prepared with a visual image of a Dominican Saint. If you have a wood burner and can bring it, please do. Also, bring an apron. Gourds, 4 (or more) wood burners, ink dyes, acrylic paints, brushes, pens, paper towels, spray sealer and embellishments will be supplied. Limited to 10 #5 Sculp ng for Dummies (1 plus hours) Led by Mary Pat Reid OP Using the Power of touch, explore the shape of things how an object should be and the reality of how it is. Stability, change and surprise are the elements needed. This is a hands on the clay studio. All supplies will be provided. Please bring an old shirt, smock or apron. Limited to 10 par cipants. #3 Scents Ability (1 hour) Led by Gail Vella Using essen al oils, par cipants will create a take home vial of their crea on. All supplies will be provided. Limited to 12 par cipants. #6 Soul Collaging with our Theme (1 hour) Facilitated by Miriam Brown OP What will your soul express when you touch into our rich sugges ve theme 800 years Ar st Spirit Flows? We will have all the supplies you need: cards of the specified Soul Collage size, baskets of pictures, scissors and glue. As you browse through the images, see how your soul speaks, what will come together on your card in color and form. In addi on to individual cards, we will also have a card of large propor on in case some would also like to work together to create a soul piece to display to the whole. #7 God s Crea on through Contempla ve Being Led by One s Self Take some down me. ARTIST MARKETPLACE AND SALES Ar st responsibili es: 1. Ar sts shall be responsible for art work and materials. Every precau on will be taken to protect and secure the artwork during the Gathering. Neither the DIA nor the host congrega on will assume responsibility for loss or damage of art work. Contact you own insurance provider for the protec on of your work. 2. Each person who displays and sells is responsible for se ng up one s own display. Display space will be assigned to those who request by the July 1 deadline. Requests received a er the deadline, or walk ins, will be accommodated if possible, although space is not guaranteed. 3. Ar sts who wish to ship their items to the host site may do so. Ar sts are responsible for the arrangements regarding delivery and pick up of materials. All materials are to be removed at the end of the Gathering. There is no available storage space. Do not send anything before July 18.
