EXECUTIVE OVERVIEW In mid-august, Memphis will once again host the Annual Hank Aaron Celebrity Sports Weekend, which benefits the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and LeMoyne-Owen College. Thanks to the Ad-In Tennis Association, the founder of the event, and the wonderful community leaders who serve on various committees, we expect this year to be the most spectacular ever! Approximately, 3,000 Memphians participate in the Hank Aaron Celebrity Sports Weekend and tens of thousands more will be aware of this special weekend via media coverage and promotion on radio and TV. Through this partnership, your company will be making a commitment to education and improving the lives of young men and women in the greater Memphis community and beyond. You will become involved with an institution that has produced a large percentage of the teachers, attorneys, clergies, elected officials, and other professionals who now live and work in this area and around the country. Our faculty and administration are committed to providing a nurturing and challenging environment in which students can pursue their goal of attaining a college education. LeMoyne-Owen College is one of 39 UNCF colleges and universities in the country and one of the oldest colleges in the state of Tennessee. The Weekend s activities are for everybody! The ever-popular Celebrity Golf Tournament kicks off the weekend on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 7:00 a.m. at the Memphis National Golf Course. Also, an additional highlight of the weekend is the 7 th Annual Dee Griffin Sunset 5K Run/Walk at 7:00 p.m. The 5K Run/Walk starts from the historic campus of LeMoyne-Owen College, journeys through the newly renovated South Memphis community, and climaxes with a Concert on the Lawn at LeMoyne-Owen in front of Brownlee Hall. On Saturday, August 21, 2010, the Celebrity Sports Breakfast, hosted by former NBA Player, Elliot Perry, at 9 a.m., attracts over six hundred individuals from around the Mid-South community. For this event, children (and adults) will have the opportunity to interact with a variety of sports celebrities in attendance and enjoy a wonderful breakfast. The 40 th Annual UNCF Black Tie Gala Reception concludes the weekend on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. In previous years, nationally known speakers and entertainers have included Randy Crawford & Joe Sample, Stephanie Mills, Isaac Hayes, Maya Angelou, Tony Brown, Clifton Davis, Susan Taylor, Patti Austin, Nancy Wilson, Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, The Four Tops, Roberta Flack, The Stylistics and Peabo Bryson. LEMOYNE-OWEN COLLEGE AT A GLANCE LeMoyne-Owen College is a private, historically black liberal arts institution, distinguished by its diverse faculty, rigorous academic programs, and success in preparing students for professional careers, leaderships, and services in the local and global community. LeMoyne-Owen is affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention. Accreditation: LeMoyne-Owen College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award the baccalaureate degree. History: The history of LeMoyne-Owen College began as early as 1862, when Lucinda Humphrey, a nurse from Chicago, began teaching freed men (former slaves) in the basement of the old Overton Hotel. The hotel had been used as a hospital during the Civil War era. Before President Lincoln even signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, Humphrey taught Blacks, which were then called contraband Negroes, the fundamentals of reading. Eventually, the classes became a part of Lincoln Chapel, which became the Lincoln Chapel School under the auspices of the American Missionary Association. In 1871, the school was renamed LeMoyne Normal and Commercial School in honor of philanthropist Dr. Francis Julius LeMoyne. LeMoyne donated $20,000 to help rebuild the school after it was destroyed by a fire during the race riots in Memphis in 1866. In 1934, the state of Tennessee chartered the school as a four-year, degree-granting institution. Its name was then changed to LeMoyne College. Thirty-four years later, in 1968, LeMoyne merged with Owen College, which combined two institutions that valued strong traditions in education and religion. Owen College was named after S. A. Owen, the president of the Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Education Convention. Faculty: Two thirds of full-time faculty hold a doctorate or terminal degree in their fields. Enrollment (2007): 714students. Gender: 64% Female, 36% Male. 89 students are residents of other states; 11 are international students. Undergraduate Majors: Accounting, African American Studies, Art, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Economics, Educational Studies, Elementary Education, English, Health and Fitness/Wellness, History, Humanities, Mathematical Science, Music, Natural Science, Political Science, Social Science, Sociology, and Social Work. Tuition, fees, and room and board for residential students are $15,170 per year. Financial Aid: More than 90 percent of students receive financial assistance. Scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs are available. 7

The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) is an educational assistance organization with 39 private, historically black member colleges and universities. Its mission is to raise funds, provide program services, and offer technical assistance to support its member colleges and their students. Tuition and fees at UNCF colleges are less than one-half the cost of other private U.S. colleges. The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) offers more than 400 programs for students, faculties, and member colleges. These program services range from scholarships and curriculum development to college preparation and faculty development. More than 54,000 students currently attend UNCF member colleges. Approximately, 85% require financial assistance, 40% are the first in their families to attend college, and 35% are from families with a gross income of less than $25,000. Since its founding, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) has raised more than $1.2 billion for historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) and their students. To date, more than 300,000 men and women have graduated from UNCF colleges. Nationally, HBCU graduates include 75% of blacks with PhDs, 85% of black doctors, 46% of black business executives, 50% of black engineers, 80% of black federal judges, 50% of black attorneys, and 75% of black military officers.
