e y n t e s News for the team members of Cross Keys Village -The Brethren Home Community As of September 29, there have been 372 days since our last lost-time injury. Keep up the good work! 10/0617 Pastoral Care continues to pray for you. Our focus the next two weeks will be our Security team on October 9 and our Campus Maintenance team on October 16. Treat Night 2017 Monday, October 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. With Halloween fast approaching, it s time to start planning our annual Treat Night event in Mission Point! This year, in an effort to better organize the event, you will need to pre-register your children. Before the event starts, everyone will meet in Nicarry Meetinghouse where they will be given a participation bracelet. Families will be assigned to a group and route. Volunteer escorts will lead your group through the building and return to Nicarry Meetinghouse where you will safely exit. Registration sign-up sheets are now available until October 14 at the main reception desks in both Mission Point and Harmony Ridge. Here are some things to keep in mind for the event: A Year Without Lost Time! Kudos to the entire CKV team for continually focusing on working safely! We are pleased to highlight that we have successfully worked 1 full year without a lost time injury. From 9/22/2016 through 9/22/2017 (and still counting) no team member has needed time off work due to a work related injury. That is A LOT of work hours without lost time! Actually form 9/22/2016-9/22/2017 we have collectively worked 1,837,730 hours without a lost time occurrence. This is not an easy achievement given the size of our campus and the unpredictable situations that can occur within our work environment. Well done and keep up the safe work! Participants must be under 12 years of age. Participants should only visit the route/neighborhood to which they are assigned. The event is for Resident and Team Member families only. Children must be with an adult at all times to participate. This is a fun family-filled event. We ask that participants do not wear inappropriate or scary costumes. For questions and/or more information, please contact Mary Van Buren at extension 6234. Candy Donations To make a candy donation for treat night please drop off your goodies at the main reception desk of Mission Point or Harmony Ridge. Candy donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.

CKV Benevolence Fundraiser Did you know that Cross Keys Village has a benevolence fund for team members who may be experiencing immediate financial assistance during a personal emergency or crisis? This October, we re hosting a Caramel Apple Gram fundraiser in support of the benevolence fund. Send co-workers a sweet treat, and make their day! Apples are $3 each or 2 for $5. Order forms will be available starting Monday, October 2 at the main reception desks in Mission Point, Harmony Ridge and Personal Care as well as at Brookside. -OR- Visit a representative in Terrace Café the week of October 9 during lunchtime to learn more or place an order. We ll also be at Harmony Ridge on Tuesday, October 10. For questions, please contact Mindy Becker, Communications and Gift Officer at extension 6496 or Ryanne Pardi, Champion of Employee Engagement at extension 5203. Another Mary-thon in the Works! Mary Van Buren is preparing for her 8 th marathon in support of our Good Samaritan Fund! She will participate in the Marine Corps Marathon on October 22, in Washington, D.C. Please help support Mary and her cause! You can show your support by stopping by the Foundation office and making a donation toward the Good Samaritan Fund in honor of her efforts. While you're there, fill out a MaryThon card which will be displayed in the hallway outside of the Foundation office! Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Cross Keys Village recognizes that team members and their families may experience issues that adversely affect overall well-being and job performance. CKV provides team members and their family members a total of up to three (3) counseling sessions each year for assessment, short-term counseling and referral services to assist with these issues. There is no cost to team members or their family members for these first three sessions. If future services are required, team members will be responsible for the associated expenses, and/or may utilize group medical coverage benefits. To utilize the services of the EAP, visit the website www.wellspaneap.org or contact Human Resources.

Show Compassion Celebrate Life Be Innovative Act Responsibly Work Together Lisa Reinhart, Sun Valley Values: Show Compassion Lisa was nominated for assisting a visitor from West Virginia who was experiencing car trouble. Unaware of what to do or who to contact, the visitor became distressed. Lisa consoled him and called her husband for assistance. Her husband (who works night shift) was sleeping, but got up to come jumpstart the visitor s car. Lisa had the visitor come inside to sit in the lounge where it was cooler, and offered him a cool drink. Lisa created a safe and calm environment for him by extending the love and compassion she gives to our residents every day. Sherry Vincion, Housekeeping/Laundry Team Leader Values: Show Compassion On her very first day of volunteering, a young teen was overwhelmed by the Terrace Café and being all alone. No other teen happened to be there that day and she had been homeschooled and never experienced a cafeteria before. Feeling distressed she did not know where to sit and was almost in tears. Sherry had been sitting with a team of housekeepers at a full table. She moved her chair to fit another chair there and encouraged and invited her to sit with them at their table. The whole team had her smiling by the end of the meal and Sherry personally walked the teen back to the volunteer office. Sherry showed compassion and helped another person feel at home on our community which set the pace for a wonderful two weeks of volunteer services from our teen.

Important Changes & Adjustments Cross Keys Village believes that all team members should be adequately compensated for their efforts, and we strive to offer a fair and attractive pay-and-benefit package. It is our way to show our genuine appreciation to you, and also an essential condition in order to recruit and retain a talented workforce in the current tight labor market. Following some research on our part, some adjustments are about to be implemented. Year-1 PTO Accrual for Hourly Team up 33% The PTO accrual rate for hourly team members during their first year at Cross Keys Village will increase, effective on the September 24 pay period. Instead of earning.0462h of PTO per hour worked (appx. 12 days/year if you work full time), first-year team members will earn.0615h (appx. 16 days/year). This affects all firstyear team members employed by Cross Keys Village. Accrual after the first year remains unchanged. Adjustments for Nursing Team Most members of the Health Care Nursing and PC Nursing teams will be receiving, via mail at their home address, a letter detailing an adjustment in their hourly rate, as well as some other changes that are contingent on scheduling choices. Please reach out to your supervisor or to our HR team with any questions you may have, or to request a change in your hours. Upfront Financial Aid for CNA Training Cross Keys Village is now taking applications for team members, in ALL departments, who are interested in becoming a CNA. We will be offering upfront financial aid for selected recipients to enroll in the three-week program. This offer applies to selected team members in good standing, with 6 months or more of employment at CKV, and who commit to working at CKV for at least one year after obtaining their certification. For more information about the program and how to apply, please contact Recruiter Lynneah Smith at ext. 5860 or ly.smith@crosskeysvillage.org. The Executive Team thanks you for the care you provide to our residents and for your continued contribution to Cross Keys Village The Brethren Home Community.

T E A M M E M B E R S P O T L I G H T Cindy Hockensmith, Communications Coordinator, Volunteer Services About Me: What I love about working here is that it has always felt like my extended family. I work with some of the most dedicated Volunteers, some of which have been working with me almost as long as I ve been here. My position as Communications Coordinator has given me opportunities to work with some incredibly talented people both young and old, acquaintances and Team Members. It s not often that you hear people say they love going to work every day but I can honestly say I love my job! Fun Fact: I love to collect tiny trinkets. Halloween Costumes With Halloween upon us in just a few short weeks it s time to start thinking about what costume you will wear! When considering a costume to wear to work, there are a few important things to keep in mind. As always, all attire must abide by CKV dress code policies. Please do not wear a costume that will affect your ability to do your job, or make you and your co-workers unsafe in any way. We ask that you refrain from wearing costumes such as: ghosts, witches, devils, anything gory, revealing, or that might scare our residents. Remember: this is their home and we want them to feel safe at all times. If you have any questions about appropriate dress code for Team Member dress down, please contact your direct supervisor or the Human Resources Department. Data Security Reminder In the past few weeks we have noticed an increase in the amount of e-mail phishing attempts. For those who are unaware, phishing is a type of fraud that takes place through e-mail, with the goal of infecting your computer. In order to minimize the risk to Cross Keys Village, we recommend that you: Do not open routinely e-mails from senders you do not know Do not click links or open attachments in e-mails if you are not certain they are legitimate Tip: Hover your cursor on suspicious links, without clicking, to see where the link truly points. Friends Yard Sale & Apple Butter Festival In a few short weeks the summer season will come to an end and autumn will begin! Do you know what that means? It s almost time for cooler air, colorful foliage, pumpkin spice lattes, freshly made apple butter, and craft season! The second annual Indoor Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, October 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Apple Butter Festival. The sale will be held indoors in Nicarry Meetinghouse. Spaces are open to all Villagers, Residents, Team Members, and Volunteers of CKV. Space rentals will be a $15 donation per space. One table will be furnished. All monies benefit The Friends of Cross Keys Village. Spaces are available on a first come-first serve basis. Registration forms are available opposite the mailboxes in Harmony Ridge or the counter in the main lobby of Mission Point. A check made out to Friends of CKV must accompany the registration form. Reservations will be accepted until all spots are reserved and should be sent to Villager - Sheryl Snyder, 29 Fulton Drive, New Oxford, PA 17350. For more information or questions, please contact Sheryl at ext. 5965. Award Season Every summer, our two local newspapers, the Evening Sun and the Gettysburg Times, organize popularity polls for area businesses. Winners are selected in many categories through two rounds of voting. It is my pleasure to announce that we have won - again - the top spot in both contests. The Evening Sun s readers gave us the Readers Choice Award in the Senior Care/Living category, and the readers of the Gettysburg Times called us the Pick of the Counties in the Senior Living Category. Unlike Hollywood actors or New York Times best-selling authors, we need to keep earning those awards... even after we win them! Fortunately we have an outstanding team, here at Cross Keys Village. We understand that a sincere smile, a quick and clear reply to a family s concern or a few minutes worth of above and beyond will confirm to someone that we actually are the best. And that someone will tell someone else, believe me. Congratulations to all of you for these awards, and let s stay in the red-carpet frame of mind until next awards season. - Oliver Hazan At the 2017 Southern PA District Conference of the Church of the Brethren, The Faith Community of The Brethren Home Community was recognized and honored by The Children s Aid Society (CAS) of the S. PA District of the COB with its 2017 Samaritan Award, presented with gratitude to the church for helping to keep children safe and feel loved. In the presentation of the plaque to Pastor Linda S. Titzell, the CAS Director Eric Chase thanked Faith Community for its generous financial support, and also expressed gratitude to CKV-TBHC for it many acts of generosity, including hand-made wooden toys, knitted/crocheted blankets/caps, supplies of diapers, paper products, toys, and more needed for the children. This is the first year CAS has presented their Samaritan Award.
