General Information Purpose: The conference is designed to improve the knowledge and competence of surgeons, allied health professionals, and nurses in surgical care. Intended Audience: The intended audience for this conference includes general surgeons, surgical residents, and medical students. Surgeons of other subspecialties, primary care physicians, physician-extenders and nurses may also find the content of the conference very useful. Educational Objectives: Upon completion of this conference, the learner should be able to: Discuss medical and surgical options of the treatment of breast cancer. Explain challenges of obesity and obesity surgery. Describe the benefits and challenges associated with competency based surgical training. Explain the important aspects of care of the trauma patient. Discuss the benefits of immunotherapy for the treatment of lung cancer. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of the various inguinal hernia repair techniques. Registration Fee: The registration fee includes registration, conference materials, CME and CEU recording, continental breakfast, coffee breaks, lunch, and one reception and dinner ticket. All but $25 of the fee is refundable if inability to attend is made known on or before November 1, 2017. Refunds will not be made for cancellations after this date Credit: Physician: The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurse:. 83 CEUs or 8.3 contact hours will be granted by UI Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34). Participants must attend the entire program to receive full credit. Location and Parking: The conference will be held in the Urmila Sahai Seminar Room, second floor of the Sahai Medical Education Center in the Medical Education and Research Facility (2117 MERF), 375 Newton Road, Iowa City, IA 52242. Parking is available in the Newton Road Ramp, 360 Newton Road at a cost of $20 per day. The MERF building is located across from the Newton Road Parking Ramp. The reception begins at 6:00 pm with dinner at 7:00 pm. Spouses and guests are welcome to attend. One ticket is included with registration. Additional tickets for the reception and dinner may be purchased at $50.00 per person.
