REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL JOURNAL EDITOR/HOST INSTITUTION The College Student Affairs Journal The national Journal of the SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION FOR COLLEGE STUDENT AFFAIRS The Southern Association for College Student Affairs (hereinafter referred to as SACSA ) invites proposals for the Editor of The College Student Affairs Journal (hereinafter referred to as the Journal ), in accordance with the standard terms and conditions and specifications set forth in this Request for Proposal (RFP). Association Summary: The Southern Association for College Student Affairs, is an independent, regional, generalist Association designed for the professional development of practitioners, educators, and students engaged in the student affairs profession. Founded in 1949, the SACSA region is composed of 15 southern States including: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC. SACSA is a volunteer driven organization comprised of elected officers and appointed committee chairs. SACSA employs a part-time Executive Director with a central office housed on the campus of Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia. Journal Summary: As a national peer reviewed professional journal, the College Student Affairs Journal primarily seeks manuscripts which report original qualitative or quantitative research regarding topics of interests to student affairs practitioners, graduate students and faculty. In addition, however, general articles may include research reports, updates on professional issues, examinations of legal and policy issues, dialogues and debates, historical articles, literature reviews, opinion pieces, or projections of future trends. Publication Schedule: Twice yearly (fall and spring). Some years the College Student Affairs Journal publishes a special topics issue (depending on annual budget). Style: Currently hard print; other options could be explored (i.e. online). Manuscript Submission/Review Process: The College Student Affairs Journal uses an electronic submission and review process. All submissions are refereed using a blind review system. Evaluative criteria includes significance of topic, clarity of presentation, style of writing, usefulness to practitioners and/or importance for scholarship, contribution to the student affairs profession and quality of methodology or program. All manuscripts received and approved for publication become the property of the Association.

Selection Process: All fully completed RFP s will be reviewed by a committee comprised of: - SACSA Past President (Journal Liaison); - SACSA President-Elect; - One of the elected/appointed Executive Council Positions titled Member-at-large; - One current Journal Associate Editor or Reviewer from within the SACSA region; and - One member from the general membership of the Association. The selection committee will strive to recommend at least three names to the Executive Council for consideration. The awarded Editor will be chosen by the Executive Council of SACSA. The awarded individual must receive a majority vote by the Executive Council. Projected (tentative) Selection Calendar: -Electronic proposals must be received by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on March 30, 2010. -Review of proposals will occur between April 1 and April 15, 2010. -Finalist will be notified by April 16, 2010 (via e-mail). -Conference call b/t finalists and SACSA EC will occur between April 20 and April 30, 2010. -The Editor will be selected and notified by May 5, 2010. Functions of the Journal Editor: - Publish two printed copies of the College Student Affairs Journal in a calendar year (one issue in the Spring Academic Semester/One issue in the Fall Academic Semester). - Select Associate Editors (when appropriate); - Approve Reviewers; - Solicit manuscripts and advertising; - Work within the confines of directives given by the SACSA Executive Council regarding, but not limited to: Annual budget, publication schedule, publication style, fee/pricing schedule, and annual conference; - Assist with Associational assessment activities (Journal related); and - Perform other duties as assigned (Journal related).

Preferred Qualifications: Faculty member from a Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related graduate program or a Student Affairs Practitioner with a publication history in refereed journals. There is no compensation for this position. SACSA will provide funding for all costs associated with publication of the Journal to include printing and mailing.
