ABOUT NSBE The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), with more than 16,000 members, is one of the largest student-governed organizations based in the United States. NSBE comprises more than 500 chapters for its collegiate, professional and pre-collegiate members in the United States, Africa, Canada and the Caribbean. NSBE had its genesis in April 1975 on the campus of Purdue University. Its founders were six highly motivated African-American engineering students (Edward A. Coleman, Anthony Harris, Brian Harris, Stanley L. Kirtley, John W. Logan Jr. and George A. Smith) and their faculty advsor, Arthur J. Bond, Ph.D. In 1976, NSBE was incorporated under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as a nonprofit organization in the State of Texas. NSBE is the world s premier organization supporting black engineers. It is led by a National Executive Board consisting of students pursuing degrees in the STEM fields at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It is also supported by a full-time professional staff at our World Headquarters facility in Alexandria, VA. NSBE s mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. A LETTER FROM THE REGIONAL FINANCE CHAIR Dear Prospective Partner, My name is Abdelwadood ( Wadood ) Daoud, and I am a senior mechanical engineering student at Iowa State University. I am the finance chair for Region V of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). I am thrilled to act as the liaison between potential partners and our region, and I am extremely excited to start to build the lasting relationships that are crucial to fulfilling the mission of the National Society of Black Engineers. Through your partnership, we believe we can help accelerate the fulfillment of NSBE s mission, which is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. Encompassing 10 states throughout the central United States, Region V offers your organization exposure to thousands of hard-working indivduals looking to leap into a lifestyle that embodies NSBE s mission. The membership of this region consists of NSBE Jr. members, collegiate members and NSBE Professionals members. Taking advantage of this unique group will not only expand the pipeline conveying talent into your organization, it will cultivate the ideals of academic excellence, professionalism and positivty in the workplace. Region V is known as the Vanguard Region. This distinctive name can be attributed to the consistent innovation and leadership that occurs here. Members of Region V have consistently demonstrated behavor that has led to innovative programming and other methods to further the work of NSBE. We take pride in this approach, which consistently increases what the National Society of Black Engineers can offer to its members, partners and surrounding communities. Being the first region to implement initiatives such as the NSBE Retention Program and A Walk for Education exemplifies the mentality crucial to increasing the number. To further nurture this mentality, the region hosts signature events throughout the year, such as the Fall Regional Conference and Regional Leadership Conference, which boost innovation and exceptional programming. Our Partnership Packet highlights opportunities for your organization to aid us in our critical work in the coming year. We invte you to partner with us in making a positive and lasting impact on minorities in STEM-related fields. This partnership will not only enable large strides to be made by these affected communities, it will also give your organization access to a deep talent pool of minorities involved with STEM. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the events, their sponsorship or partnerships in general, please feel free to contact me. On behalf of Region V, I thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to working with you for years to come! Sincerely, Abdelwadood A.
