Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch and holiday cheer at the beautifully decorated O Neil House. Leslie Bain was recognized as the most festive in her holiday apparel. Many thanks to Denise Beck in coordinating the luncheon. In Remembrance Sally Anne Riede, passed away on December 3, 2016. Sally was a selfless volunteer and served on the boards and committees of many organizations including The University of Akron s Faculty Wives Club where she served as president from 1960-61 and remain active in the club in throughout the 1970s and played with the bridge group through the 1990s. Sally will by missed by many. Sonia H. Dial, long time member of the UAWC died peacefully December 19, 2016. Sonia loved animals spending so much time walking dogs at the shelter and volunteering her time to worthy causes. She was a gracious hostess and friend to many. We, in the University of Akron Women s Club will miss her smile and giving nature. A celebration of her life will be scheduled in April. Join The University of Akron Women s Club as we cheer on the lady Zips When: Cost: February 11th (Saturday) game vs. Kent State Golden Flashes 2 p.m. game James A. The dates are October 10, 11, and 12, 2017 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). The proceeds from the trip will help to support the UAWC Scholarship Fund. This year s play bill includes Me and My Girl, Dracula, The Madness of George III, and An Octoroon. See complete details in the enclosed Shaw Festival reservation form (page 4). be sure to indicate names of attendees. Tickets can be picked up at 'Will Call' window.

Spring Women s Club General Meeting at the Hower House, 60 Fir Hill, Akron Thursday, March 9, 2017 6:00 p.m. Shop in the Gift Shop 6:30 p.m. Dinner followed by the program. Program: Shelia Baronwright, Summit County Master Gardeners, will present Senior Gardening As spring approaches, planting fever will hit us & colorful annuals at garden shops will wave at us to buy them. But bending & digging activities can become painful as we get older. Shelia Baronwright, a Master Gardener speaker, will focus on gardening advice for seniors. The Summit County Master Gardeners is an extension of the Ohio State University. This event is held in the lovely Hower House and includes a delicious home-style dinner. SHAW FESTIVAL TRIP 2017 - Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada Sponsored by The University of Akron Women s Club The University of Akron Women s Club is proud to announce their fifth trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake, NOTL, to see plays at the Shaw Festival. The dates are October 10, 11 & 12, 2017, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. The proceeds from the trip will help to support the scholarship fund of the UAWC. The fee for the trip will include: **** PASSPORTS for land crossing into Canada ARE REQUIRED**** * Comfortable roundtrip transportation (bus with bathroom) and all tips and admissions * Two plays come with the package, you may purchase a third. Women s Club News and Notes Happy Valentine s Day! Avoid the winter blahs, try to get out this season to enjoy all the Akron area has to offer.
