Building a Better Society, Stronger Business: YOUTH can do it. (Degree Accounting and Business Students) ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition 2015

Objective The ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition is designed to simulate the real-world business environment. By developing a sensible and innovative business proposal with the aim of building a better society and stronger business, participating students will learn how professional inputs made by accounting and business professionals can contribute towards the success of a business project and the wider society. Eligibility for Entry The competition is divided into degree and sub-degree categories, and is open to full-time accounting and business students from local institutions. Each team shall consist of 3 to 4 accounting and/or business students of the same institution. Competition Schedule - Degree 14 October 2015 (Wednesday) Online Application 4:00pm Deadline 17 October 2015 (Saturday) Briefing Session 26 October 2015 (Monday) Submission of Brief Proposal 13 November 2015 (Friday) Submission of Final Proposal from the 7 finalist teams 21 November 2015 (Saturday) Final Competition (7 finalist teams) Come and join the ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition 2015 to showcase your business talent, sharpen your social awareness, and enhance your analytical and communication skills at a holistic level. Benefits Opportunity to learn from elites of the society The 7 finalist teams will be invited to attend a workshop, conducted by experienced coaches to enhance business and accounting knowledge as well as presentation skills. You will enjoy the invaluable opportunity to learn from outstanding business leaders and receive their expert advices on preparing sound business proposal. Opportunity to attend expert training You will be exposed to precious chances to network with our panel of judges and obtain consultation and professional advices from them. Their experience sharing shall accelerate your path to success. You will also get to know more about channels available in supporting your innovative entrepreneurial ideas. Gain recognition to enrich your CV Participants will each be awarded a Certificate from ACCA Hong Kong. Among all participating teams, 20 teams will be short-listed, 13 teams shall be awarded with Judges Commendation, while the top 7 finalist teams will advance to the Final Competition to compete for the championship. Stages of the Competition Stage 1 Online Application Deadline for submission: Wednesday, 14 October 2015 (no later than 4:00pm) Stage 2 Briefing Session by HKCSS-HSBC Social Enterprise Business Centre (SEBC) and ACCA Hong Kong At least 2 students of each team are encouraged to attend the briefing session. The session will cover i) an overview of the current situation and measures on improving the society, ii) how to prepare a sensible business proposal and budgeting plan, and iii) assessment criteria of the business proposal and competition logistics. The briefing session will be conducted by representatives from SEBC and ACCA Hong Kong. Date: Saturday, 17 October 2015 Time: 11:00am 1:00pm Venue: VTC Auditorium, A004, Hong Kong Design Institute, 3 King Ling Road, Tseung Kwan O, N.T. Stage 3 Submission of Brief Business Proposal Deadline for submission: Monday, 26 October 2015 All participating teams are required to submit: A brief business proposal (MS PowerPoint format) on the case question with no more than 20 slides (in English). Students should submit the above in soft copy in a CD-Rom together with one printed hard copy (on two-sided A4 sized papers with two PowerPoint slides on each side, in full colours or black and white) to ACCA Hong Kong office. Late submissions will not be accepted. Stage 4 Submission of Final Business Proposal (For finalist teams) Deadline for submission: Friday, 13 November 2015 The 7 finalist teams are required to submit a detailed business proposal of no more than 2,000 words (in English) for judges review. All teams are required to send 8 hard copies of your proposal to ACCA Hong Kong office. Marks will be deducted for late submission. Stage 5 Final Competition At the Final Competition, 7 finalist teams are required to present their proposals to a panel of judges in English. Open audience will be invited. Date: Saturday, 21 November 2015 Time: 9:00am 1:30pm Venue: Harcourt Room, LL, Conrad Hong Kong, Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Hong Kong Note: Finalist teams are required to submit their presentation file to ACCA Hong Kong office no later than 4:00 pm, 19 November 2015. Case Question* A strong business model to build a better society: Youth can do it. Case Scenario You are a team to develop a business model based on a 2-year funding plan of HK$2 million. The business model aims to build a better society for a particular group(s) of beneficiaries. Examples of beneficiaries: Family and Child People with Disabilities Elderly Young People People Living in Poverty Offenders Chronically Ill People Reference: Social Welfare Department www.swd.gov.hk At the final competition, your team has to present your proposal to the Competition s vetting committee which comprises representatives from SEBC and other professionals. Your proposal should include the following: A name of the business model The product/service of the business model Well-defined group(s) of beneficiaries Initial start-up planning, operation details and manpower planning Budget and business forecast Your budget plan should include the following: Initial setup costs, the funding plan to run the project such as launching campaign, operation costs, manpower and promotion, etc. Any other source of funding and/or sponsorships to finance the project or business model if deemed appropriate The financial projections shall also identify the key risks that may impact on the launch of this project To support your proposed business model, the following should also be included: The current situation and the needs of the selected group(s) of beneficiaries. The findings have to be justified by a survey designed and conducted by the team to capture the real situation in Hong Kong The viable promotional channels to reach the targets Recommendations on measures and long-term solutions to build a better society Your proposal will be evaluated based on the following: Is the business model viable and sustainable? Does the business plan have a good integration of all necessary elements? Is the proposal innovative and creative? Is the presentation of the proposal clear, appealing yet professional? * The case question and the evaluation criteria are designed solely for the purpose of ACCA Business Competition 2015.
