Surcharges $20 for each conviction of driving under the influence (DUI), or driving while ability impaired (DWAI) $15 for each conviction of speeding Helmet Law (2007) -18 and younger have to wear a helmet - $15.00 surcharge
Allocation of Funds Minimum of 55% to provide services to individuals with TBI Minimum of 25% to support research related to the treatment and understanding of TBI Minimum of 5% to provide TBI education for survivors, family members, professionals, educators, and others in the community

Education Program 6 TBI Board awards grants annually Funding maximum of $10,000 Topics range from prevention to intervention Currently have awarded education grants in each region of the state
Education Program Priorities 2014 Mental health provider education Military/veteran education Education related to brain injury and aging Education for underserved populations (Native American, African American, etc.) Co-occuring brain injury & behavioral health Homeless populations Development of online and electronic teaching media First responders, law enforcement, and corrections
Education Program Grants Review Grants first reviewed by program to ensure all requirements are met Then reviewed by a sub-committee of the Board of Directors Accepted for full funding, partial funding, or denied
Education Program timeline Announcement is estimated to be made on 5/2/14 Applications will be due on 6/2/14 Board Committee will review by 6/23/14 Grant awards will be announced by 7/2/14 Grants will start August 1, 2014 and be completed by June 30, 2015.

RESEARCH Minimum of 25%
Research Program 12 BI Program awards research grants as funds are available Currently 2 levels of grants: $50,000 for up to 2 years, total $100,00 (level 1) $150,000 for up to 2 years, total $300,00 (level 2) *plus a maximum of 25% indirect Research priorities related to Basic Science, Clinical Science, and Health Services and Outcomes Evaluation
Research Program Letter of Intent: * Reviewed by the Board, Evaluation/Research Committee * Invitation for full application, revision, or rejected Full Application: * Reviewed by external reviewers * Panel of 3, 1 st independent review then panel discussion * Recommended for funding or denied
Research Program Estimated Timeline Research grant announcements will be on 8/1/14 Letters of Intent will be due on 9/5/14 Board Committee will review by 9/19/14 Invitation for application will be made 9/22/14 Revised LOI will be due by 10/3/14 Invitation for application for revised LOI will be 10/8/14
Timeline Continued All applications will be due by 12/12/14 Individual and panel review will be completed by 2/20/15 Awards will be made and contract development will begin by 3/6/15 Contracts will begin July 1, 2015 and end June 30, 2017
Things to Consider 1. Only completed applications will be accepted 2. If you are not an experienced evaluator (as per our definition) you must partner with someone who is considered experienced 3. LOI one revision will be accepted pending initial review 4. There will not be an opportunity to revise applications 5. All grants are now competitive vs. merit based
