Chief Executive / Director of Nursing Report November 2017 Annual Leave I am just back from 10 days in Port Douglas with my family. It was a beautiful time with lovely warm weather and a time of relaxation. It is a bit of a shock to come back to this cool weather today. Benalla Mural Mike Larkin, a local Benalla artist has worked with several of the residents, the Health and Wellbeing team and Vanessa, our Marketing and Projects Coordinator in preparation for Cooinda s Benalla Mural, which has been fixed to the wall outside A block. It is really an amazing work of art which depicts many aspects of Benalla over the years and has been inspired by local identities and historical photos of Benalla. Mike presented an interpretive description of the artwork recently, which was attended by residents, family and visitors including several Benalla Rural City Councillors. Mike s presentation was very informative and provided a great awareness of the different aspects of the mural. There will be a description of the work put up near the mural so people will be able to read it and understand the different aspects. Please make time to come and have a look at the wonderful piece. Euroa Health Visit ~ Several Board members and staff visited the new Granite Hills Nursing Home in Euroa a couple of weeks ago. Granite Hills is a 75 bed home which was completed early in the year and people moved in as of May 2017. The delegation from Cooinda were keen to look at the different aspects of the facility in preparation for our launch into the new build of the 28 bed facility early in 2018. Euroa Health received a grant of $16 million from the government and had a green field site so it made the build so much easier. For Cooinda, we need to fit the facility in around other buildings and infrastructure. It was very interesting to see and also discuss with the CEO of Euroa Health the issues they had with the build and move in. Waste management ~ The management of waste in health care is an ongoing issue. With the planning of the new 28 bed facility we have been required to move some infrastructure. As ILU residents will be aware we are currently in the midst of moving the laundry to the old maintenance shed so the current laundry can be demolished. We are now looking at how we manage waste. One of the main things will be trying where possible to reduce the amount of waste Cooinda generates so stay tuned for some information on what we are doing in this area. From the Board Meeting Landscape Design ~ The Board have requested that we obtain some quotes for a master plan of garden landscaping of Cooinda. We have gone out to tender for this work and are just waiting for the tenders to arrive before finalising the outcome. Strategic Planning ~ The Board and senior staff are meeting on the 31st October to spend some time preparing a strategic plan for Cooinda for the next two- three years. The last strategic planning session was late in 2014. Most of the work that was planned has been completed so it is time for additional planning.
