P/ATONs Primary responsibility of the Auxiliary Aid to Navigation Program is the reporting of discrepancies observed on both Federal Short Range Aids to Navigation (ATONs) and Private Aids to Navigation (PATONs). Is a partnership between the Coast Guard and the Auxiliary focusing on assisting the Coast Guard in remote areas where the Coast Guard doesn t transit in the normal course of daily operations, as well as the more traveled waterways of the country. All Navigation Systems (NS) activities are to be conducted in a partnership mode with the local CG ANT, station or other agency that is responsible for managing the Federal Aids in your area. Guidelines for checking aids and reporting observations are contained in the National Short Range Aids to Navigation Training Guide available on the Prevention Directorate website.
