HARDROCK E-NEWS GREETINGS FROM THE SDSM&T ALUMNI ASSOCIATION Attention alumni: Sign-up today for the FREE online directory via Login/Join link! Webpage: http://alumni.sdsmt.edu Email: alumni@sdsmt.edu Please support the Mines Annual Fund via the link HERE! Watch a short video via the https://youtu.be/awevi5bllr0 link. Hardrock E-News Volume 15, Number 36: Dave Berg (ME73) - Alumni President Tim Vottero (Chem84) - Alumni Director A fond farewell from your Alumni Director. It is with mixed feelings that share my plans to leave the position as Executive Director with the SDSM&T Alumni Association. After nearly 17 years as director and roughly 20 years on campus, I believe it is time for a change in my career and for the Association. The past two decades have included knowing and working with seven University Presidents, seventeen Alumni Presidents, dozens of Board Members, hundreds of students, faculty, and staff, and thousands of alumni. There have been many changes, challenges, and cheers as part of this position. Thank you so much for the opportunity to work in this position. I will leave with the cherished memories of many people, stories, and events, especially the All School Five-Year Reunions and the alumni gatherings across the U.S. As one of only four people that have ever held this position since 1934, my parting wish is that our Alumni Association will survive well into the future so that that generations of alumni to come may learn the value of being a lifelong Hardrocker and the importance of tradition. During these next few months through the year s end, I will continue to work as your Director and help with the transition. The Executive Committee and Board will be discussing and announcing plans for succession during this time. Go Hardrockers! Tim Vottero (Chem84), SDSM&T Alumni Association. Only three weeks until M-Day Where will you Muster?!! This year s M-Day celebration October 3, 2015 once again calls for events around the U.S. and beyond for the eighth annual "M-Day Muster" gatherings, where any group of two or more alumni are together. This celebration is for all Miners unable to be in Rapid City for traditional M-Day festivities. Our vast group of alumni is encouraged to muster or gather in small

groups for food, drink, and remembrance of their years at SDSM&T. This initiative is entirely a volunteer project intended to further advance the School of Mines and its alumni. o Mitchell, SD (Corn Palace Chapter) Event: Beginning at 7:00PM (CDT), alumni and friends will gather at The Depot (www.mitchelldepot.com), seven blocks south of the Corn Palace. Order off the menu and celebrate M-Day with other Hardrocker fans. RSVP: Keith Beck (EE90) BeckK@graphicpkg.com For others who plan to gather for the annual M-Day Muster around the country, please send the where, when, what, who, etc. to the Alumni Association via alumni@sdsmt.edu and we will post the events in an upcoming E-News issue. As always, be certain to take a photo of your gathering for the Hardrock magazine too. Go Hardrockers! Groundbreaking set for new student housing at SD Mines. The Foundation and the University will host a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 4PM to celebrate the upcoming construction of a residence hall designed to house 200 students. The ceremony will be at the corner of East Saint Joseph and Maple Streets just west of the campus, where construction will immediately begin. The residence hall will be open by the fall 2016 semester. SD Mines and the Foundation and will enter into a 30-year lease agreement for the completed project, built on a 1.78-acre site owned by the Foundation. In June, the South Dakota Board of Regents approved the proposal. The new six-story building will offer 51 suitestyle units, each with a living room, private bathrooms, and bedrooms. Community lounges, kitchens and group study spaces will also be provided throughout the building. Enrollment at SD Mines has increased 35 percent over the last six years, leading to a current demand for expanded housing options. Read the full news release via the link HERE.
