ABOUT US Global Network for Sustainable Development (GNSD) was initiated by the group of participants of the leadership workshops Empowerment for Peace through Leadership in Agribusiness and Sustainability (EmPeaceLABS) held in Jalgaon (India). The workshops were organized by the partnership between Arizona State University (ASU) and Gandhi Research Foundation (GRF). When the world was approaching the deadline for the UN Millennium Development Goals, some participants of this workshop, together with ASU faculty and students, decided to create a new network that would promote a global partnership among youth. The following organizations were involved at different stages of the development of this network: 1. Sustainability Transition Consulting (SusTranCon), USA ( http://sustrancon.org) 2. Halsten Enterprise, USA (http://halstenenterprise.org) 3. Centre for Community Based Research, Waterloo University, Canada (http://communitybasedresearch.ca) 4. TEWA, Nepal (http://tewa.org.np) 5. GlobalEd, USA, (http://globaledconsulting.com) 6. AASRA for Community Transformation, India (http://aasraindia.org) 7. Mahatma Gandhi Shodh Sansthan (http://mgshodh.org) 8. Gandhi Research Foundation (http://gandhifoundation.net ) 9. Glogal Interactions, USA (www.globalinteractions.org) 10. Non-Violence, Switzerland (http://nonviolence.com) 11.Playing for Change Foundation, USA (http://playingforchange.org) The network was launched at the meeting of Rotary Clubs in Kathmandu (Nepal) in November 2014. Until April 2017 GNSD was functioning as a project of ASU Department of Psychology. In May 2017 it was registered in Arizona as an acting globally NGO, collaborating with numerous community organizations worldwide. 2

MISSION In the context of increased violent conflicts between ethnic groups, people of different religions,, and the easiness with which young individuals are recruited by terrorist organizations, addressing the issue of a relationship between sustainable development and peace becomes a high priority. We assume that sustainable development is impossible without peace, and that we cannot have peace without sustainable development. The mission of GNSD is to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals by educating youth about principles of environmental and economic sustainability, by promoting the idea of Global Citizenship, and by involving them in active realization of these goals.. We intent to do it by creating worldwide Sustainability Clubs for Peace and Peace Clubs for Sustainability. These clubs will involve their members in community projects addressing sustainable development, and non-violent conflict resolutions.. GNSD also provides an Internet platform allowing members of these clubs to maintain a dialog with similar clubs across the world. Although GNSD is open to work with any governmental or religious organization, it does not represent any particular political or religious orientation. 3
